I think Presti is overreacting, her Mom seems chill and probably trusts her daughter to build a responsible airship.

I think Presti has misunderstood her moms rules about magic use while she was a child for a distrust of magic in general or at least an unreasonable overreaction about the risks. As shown in the first part of the chapter. magic plus children who literally cant properly asses risk is a bad combination. (lack of experience to compare to and the parts of the brain that do that stuff not being fully developed)

OTOH, perhaps her mother remembers her daughter as the accident-prone child and has to learn she grew up.

Getting herself launched by the Magic Missile was not perhaps the best way to raise confidence.

Hmm, you know, I hadn’t considered the possibility that the Magic Missile from Level 5 could have caused flashbacks to Presti’s childhood broom accident. That time, she did not have much boom for error.

Sure. I mean, quite a few of the commenters did, even though she definitely did not say that.

    So… Presti’s mom is Obelix?

Regarding the “boar punching”, at least.

Naw, Obelix doesn’t punch them for sport – he always punches the for groceries.

Well, it might be advisable to keep it need-to-know. Once you make an interdimensional airship, people will start to ask why this was a big rush. Especially with so many obvious urgent needs.

I’m sure it’s for lack of trying of the competition.

So… if Presti’s mum is ever at a loss for what to do, she may just have a bout of dire boar-dom?

And Presti is afraid they’ll be in deep ship if her mother finds out about her project

Maybe, we don’t really know. Presti could be over-reacting. My prediction? Mom ends up on the airship.

Mom not only ends up on it, she has to help save it somehow, probably by telling Presti she always believed in her daughter and her magic, she just worries because she’s a boar punching fighter not a wizard.

They find the crack in reality. Mom punches the thing holding it open, and they use the glue bombs to seal it back up

Kinda, yeah. Except they seem much more friendly with each other than the Greenhilts.

Good to see Pizza Gorgon is still in business. Fresh dough and fresh stone must appeal to people.
