I think Presti has misunderstood her moms rules about magic use while she was a child for a distrust of magic in general or at least an unreasonable overreaction about the risks. As shown in the first part of the chapter. magic plus children who literally cant properly asses risk is a bad combination. (lack of experience to compare to and the parts of the brain that do that stuff not being fully developed)
Well, it might be advisable to keep it need-to-know. Once you make an interdimensional airship, people will start to ask why this was a big rush. Especially with so many obvious urgent needs.
