So what I’m wondering is why there even is a hotel here. Hotels are usually built near other tourist attractions, or at least in cities: you know, places that people like to visit. This one seems to be in a cave out in the middle of nowhere.

The revelation that the hotel specializes in catering to adventurers (probably a good business model in a D&D world) explains this somewhat, but it does imply that there are a lot of treasure-filled dungeons, rampaging orc tribal encampments, secret evil mastermind lairs, etc. nearby to attract so much adventurer interest.

Alternately, it’s very far from all of those as a relief from them. You don’t take a vacation from your job by pitching a tent in the break room, right?

      • Milo
        January 8, 2020, 3:33 pm | # | Reply

If they’re “off the job”, then they go back to having mostly the same considerations as normal tourists. It’s unlikely that a hotel itself, however luxurious, would be a sufficient tourist attraction to interest someone who’s looking for a vacation, absent other forms of entertainment in the area.

          Not if it’s resort level.

Or at any rate, you’re certain that it’s resort level. . . .

They’re also built in the middle of the road as a place for the weary traveler to stop for the night, I guess? This doesn’t look like that kind of place, though.

They arrived on a boat that runs on train tracks.

You might be asking a bit much of logic here.

    • Tarrangar
      January 11, 2020, 2:00 pm | # | Reply

It might just be that this is an resort hotel, sure most hotels are in the city, but there are also plenty of hotels out in the wilderness, that cater to people wanting to experience the outdoor life during the day, but want comforts for the nights.

It might even be a ski resort during the winter, it’s in a mountainous area for sure, and the ant monsters have probably cleared out any other nearby monsters, so it’s safe enough even for low level NPCs.

That 1st-Panel look in her eye is most telling!

Panel-5’s green eyes had me baffled, until I realized that those 2 guests were having cucumber-facials…
…then I was amused to see that the 2 most barbaric-looking guests went for the most decadent of luxuries.

I just noticed, on the Cast Page Y.T. is still categorized among the “Enemies” (and so is Slobber, for that matter).

It’d say she has already moved a bit, to the “reluctant allies”/”sometimes friends” category by now.
