I think it’s meant to be, but in a more wonderfully twisty way than usual. Surface, there’s asking about the actual Games. Then, there’s the expected subtext of “Is my flirtation welcome, or am I the wrong gender for you?” Then, given the world, there’s another layer–alignment is a quantifiable thing here.
