HEY NOW! We all know the rules of Gnomish Baseball!

You can only go after players who aren’t on the field when they’re in the batters’ box, the bullpen, or on the bench! (Most prefer not to do harm in the bullpen. The bull will do enough damage if left to its own devices.)

Going after them in the temple is a total yellow card violation!

Maybe he’s here to hammer out a deal? I mean, we know why Robespierre & co are in the game, what motivates the trolls (besides the opportunity of gratuitous mayhem)?

One troll versus a Cleric, a Paladin, I’m guessing a Fighter, and a Mimic. This’ll get ugly fast.

What do you mean “Get ugly”? I don’t think they make it much uglier than he already is.

But Derek and Madeline’s cute counters the ugly! The BeerGoggle factor is wide open and here come the Swedish Bikini Team!

On the contrare, good sir, I do believe the troll is there to extend a piece offering as mimic clearly wasn’t ready when he threw the ball, and although it is a very brutal sport, it is still a sport and thus there is such a thing as good sportsmanship.

Two clerics, a mimic,. and a paladin who is — not at her best.

Hmmmm — OTOH — we don’t know the extent of Derek’s vow. Is it just patients? Or is he a pacifist?

        Dorilys, of course, is not.

Given that she wears the same armor as Maddie I would almost guess Paladin if she didn’t act so chaotic. Though this might be a one time reaction given Mimic’s perceived role in Maddie’s death.

She’s in the healing tent and has a red cross armband. I’m thinking Cleric.

Dorilys is one of the Kickstarter inserted characters. So I can definitely state Aeshdan is right: Cleric.

            A fighting cleric, mind you

Dorilys, however, might not be eager to jump to Mimic’s defense.

In fights? She’s the best fighter in this comic, possibly equaled only by Cube.

            July 20, 2016, 9:55 am | # | Reply

On the contrary, she’s been beaten twice by Grinner, even if circumstances were against her each time.

And the best fighter in the comic has repeatedly been shown to be Princess.

Maddie is good, and not just lawfully, but she’s by no means the best when we have at least 3 better warriors, and I am probably forgetting someone else who is better.

          • CrawlMe
            July 20, 2016, 11:12 am | # | Reply

            To clarify:
            Princess > all
            Cube > Grinner
            Robespierre > Grinner
            Grinner > Maddie
            Maddie > a lot
            Stabs > a lot

We’ve seen Maddie and Stabs both deal with a pile of baddies, but against an enemy like Grinner we’ve only seen Robespierre and Cube really wreck face. Maddie did have an impressive showing against the Hipster Vamps, interdimensional horror, and the Rhemora, but that doesnt make her the best fighter in the comic. While you could argue that neither of Grinner’s victories vs Maddie really count on account of next to no HP and then dynamite… it still doesn’t change that he was truly worked over by those other two whenever they weren’t restrained.

But when Grinner was worked over by Robspierre, Grinner had just had his weapon eaten and was taken completely by surprise. No weapon + element of surprise + Barbarian opponent… is not really all that meaningful in determining final power levels. Robspierre has never gone up against Grinner in a “fair fight.” And when Madeline fought Grinner, the first time she could barely stand and the second time she was actually clearly beating him up until he started targeting innocent bystanders. I personally don’t see that you can take a single matchup of character vs character and use that to pronounce which is more powerful anyway (I’ve seen Hawkeye beat the Hulk; and yes, it was an official Marvel comic).

And if it comes to that, Princess was getting worked over by Calamitus really good in level 4; only defeating him when he was distracted and focusing on Cube and Roxy. Plus he somehow managed to capture her in the first place, setting the stage for level 1. Does that mean that Calamitus is the best fighter in the comic?

Because of all this, the power level of the characters is going to be essentially a matter of opinion with no “right” answer. But I personally would put Cube, Madeline, and Princess as the top tier of characters (and probably in that order). Grinner gets ahead, not by his fighting ability (which in his first adventure is pretty crappy and when he is fighting half-dead Madeline in #7 is… still pretty crappy), but by his ability to plan ahead and target his opponent’s weaknesses. I guess that makes him the Batman of Rustyverse.

Given Maddie’s previous references to Derek, I was expecting him to be dorkily cute. His abundance of common sense, patience, and tact is a very welcoming change of pace though. No wonder Maddie is smitten.

My theory is that Maddie has lost all her killer instinct, it was put in evil Maddie and that is why she can’t do anything and acts like a middleschool girl with a crush.

From what Derek is saying, it sounds like she’s got a really nasty case of PMSD (Post Mortem Stress Disorder, for those not familiar with fantastic psychology).

She blushed at the very mention of him at the beginning of the vampire adventure. The crush predates the problem.

No, read the tooltip by hovering your mouse over the comic. There’s been a little note like that on pretty much every page.

OTOH, we do know she has to stop and sniff to verify it.

And she may be neglecting such things in her reaction to death and raise dead.

Mimic’s team won, the troll lost his chance to go pro.
Mimic is a coward and has been hospitalized.
Solution: Troll takes Mimic’s place on team?

There are those that say that Madeline’s extra klutziness in this panel is the side-effects of her resurrection. Are we sure this isn’t just from clumsiness as a result of infatuation with the doctor? Some people tend to be very clumsy ’cause they’re in love. (Thanks, Fergie, for that song.)
