What are you complaining about? Since you’re so short, that means you have absurdly small strike zones.

…That’s a good point, actually…how fast can they run? As long as they can get the ball on the ground to deep left, they’ll be able to run the bases.

Halflings run at about 2/3 the speed of humans, on average.

OTOH, halflings have plenty of bonuses when throwing things (OK, just a +1 in D&D 3.5).

A +3, sir. (1 for a racial trait, 1 for being small, 1 for the Dexterity bonus.) TRIPLE what you thought!

I don’t think Mimic and Cube even have strike zones.

Let’s be fair… At their height, it’s probably Tee Ball.

Props to Robespierre though. That’s a way better burn.

Love how Cube has a bag of peanuts. He knew what it was from the get-go.

Also, Robespierre apparently has a fairly grim opinion of baseball, seeing as he described the games as “committing violence for entertainment purposes” (page 2 or 3, I think), so either the games get pretty aggressive or that’s just his opinion on sports.

Well, while the comic has avoided overtly tying itself to D&D v3.5, it’s pretty clear that this is the main ‘gameplay’ inspiration for much of the action.

…but, for now, I think we *might* be drifting in the direction of a certain GW tabletop game set in the Warhammer Fantasy setting.

…one whose name rhymes with ‘Flood Foal’.

THUS the reason for everyone’s panicked response when hearing he was sentenced to participate in “The Games”.

At least it isn’t basketball or baseketball or golf. One of them ball in net games I was terrible at in school.

If the game is baseball, I don’t see why Robespierre wouldn’t want halflings at bat. Their strike zone must be almost microscopic.

Hmm. I would actually think that it is Mimic who could be the winning advantage for this team. Change to a shape long enough to reach all four bases at once, and who can tell how many home runs he counts as?

He could BECOME a bat. All he’d need is someone to swing him. I’m pretty sure the rules allow it.

The outlook wasn’t brilliant for the Hobbit Three that day:
Not even four foot two, with but one great thug holding sway.
Would clever Mimic die on first? Would Cube then do the same?
Oh NPCs and readers, we have just begun the game.

You guys are all assuming they bat first.
It’s a whole different game when practically everyone is a shortstop…
On the other hand, how difficult is it for a halfling thief to steal second base?

Well Stabs might make a great pitcher, if she can throw a baseball half as well as she can throw a dagger. And if Cube is covering one of the bases, it might be difficult for anyone on the other team to reach the base without getting eaten.

    Baseball Bat (Club, 1d6, 2×20 damage): 6cp
Full team outfit (no enchantments): 30cp
The look of absolute despair on halfling faces: Priceless.

One thing I haven’t been able to figure out yet is if Mimic’s accent is supposed to be Brooklyn or Cockney. The transliteration is a bit inconsistent ><

    Maybe they’re playing Bloodball?

Like Blood Bowl but baseball instead of football.
