    How cooked is Mimic’s goose?
Enough for Petey to read Prof. Zeus.
Will his literacy form a truce?
Or will it tighten the noose?
(Apologies for my poor execution of meter)

Yeah… I’m with Mimic on this one. Terrifyingly bewildered, indeed.

But Vrock and Toque don’t rhyme!
And apparently Robespierre is farsighted. Who knew?

It’s an educational book, written by Barbarians, for Barbarians.

Do YOU wanna tell them it doesn’t rhyme?

      September 12, 2018, 12:35 pm | # | Reply

Pretty sure it’s being said as “the rock in the tock”

And staring at small things close up – say, letters & digits on a page – is a contributor to nearsightedness. Not entirely shocking someone who has never done that in his life would have the opposite problem!

“Toque” is pronounced like the word “mook”.

Fairly Certain that a Toque and a Tuque are two Different things, and as such are Spelled Differently, the first one rimes with what is set up the Second does not.

Indeed – I’m choosing to replace “toque” with “smock” in my head canon.

Actually, according to dictionary.com, it’s pronounced “toke”. I suppose it could a difference in regional dialect, though. In any case, I’ve never used the word myself (and in fact didn’t even know what it meant until a year or so ago); I’ve always called it a stocking cap.

I’m just choosing to pronounce “Vrock” with a long O to rhyme with “smoke.”

I’ve always read Robespierre’s lines with a french accent, in which the /o?/ (e.g. the o in smoke) isn’t used anyway. ¯\_(?)_/¯

Looks like Robespierre actually did decide that he to work on his shortcomings. Developing an awareness of how to use the rules to his advantage, and literacy to avoid getting jokes made at his expense? Looks like somebody leveled up during that last game, and made creative use of the skills points. Cross class skill purchases in Knowledge: The Games Lore, and Knowledge: Read Good?

(Remember, back in http://rustyandco.com/comic/level-8-65/ he was really upset about Stabs and his own illiteracy. Among other things. If he’s confronting his weaknesses this doggedly, that’s some great character growth!)

While “Knowledge: Games Lore” might be a possibility, I would guess that he’s more likely remembering that there is a penalty for “Violence Between Games”
      http://rustyandco.com/comic/level-8-58/

As for reading, 2 skill points for Literacy!

The first part of your post I totally agree with, though!

*shocked gasp* He’s reading! And using pronouns! Good on Petey for seeking self-improvement, though. I wonder if he learned the results of last game yet?

To be fair, Mimic did class in Beholder way back in Level 1. He’s never bothered to use the eye again since, though. Probably reclassed to something else.

So, I posted a short rant about this here:
          http://rustyandco.com/comic/level-8-37/

But to paraphrase: that comic you linked to was right around the “Time of Troubles” with this comic, with many a legal proceedings surrounding it. Now, given that “Beholder” in this context is related to the same “legal status” as the mob in Level 5, it is very likely that Mimic retrained (or was simply ret-conned) to no longer have the eye.

ok, so he can’t have a level in Beholder since thats copyrighted, but an EyeBeast is not. 🙂

It may just be me, but I find this oddly moving. 🙂
Yes, Robespierre got very angry because everyone was outshining him in the Games, and nobody was listening. Yes, he walked through a wall.
But he didn’t just keep raging. He improved himself! He’s attained a new skill and used his mind to deal with Draco and save Mimic’s life! 🙂

    Good for you, Robespierre!

Not sure why Mike went with as obscure a word as “toque”, since “The Vrock In To Frock” would have been the obvious thing to go with here.
