I’m calling it now: Anti-Madeline is hiding in the cake, and (for as of yet unknown reasons) “a Doogan shall free.”
Ha Ha! The jokes on the Viscount! Those are halflings… that cake’ll be devoured with afternoon tea long before they get to the dungeon!
But what if the cake is mimic’s evil twin, and it eats THEM! “Gasp!”
It could be a cake of domination, to get them to do his bidding after they (predictably) eat it…
And lo, it came to pass that once again a group of rogues collectively chose wisdom as their dump stat.
Kinda odd, too, because they’re supposed to be… street-wise!
(But seriously, spot, listen, and sense motive are Wis skills and they’re very important to a rogue’s job. Wisdom ought to be second or third place in a rogue build, after Dex and possibly Int or Cha.)
Put enough points into the skills, and the underlying stat doesn’t matter all that much… until you find yourself making raw wisdom checks….
It looks like their wisdom check has bounced.

At first, I thought that cake was poisoned and I feared Stab’s brothers wouldn’t be making it past the Games, but then I realized they’re going for the old “file in the cake” stunt. Only, I suspect the “file” in question is something more sinister. I suspect the Viscount is attempting to eliminate anyone who could protect the Princess from his schemes, such as by getting most of the Princess’ allies thrown in the dungeon.
It could also be something to let him get access. We already know there’s magic down there.
…I would think Stabs would refuse, realizing that escaping THIS time would not be beneficial…
At the start of the movie “Savannah Smiles,” the comedy relief character breaks his buddy out of prison. Said buddy isn’t happy at all, he was getting released Friday.
The Viscount must think that getting the help of Kris and Dirk is a piece of cake.
That must be some sweet plan he’s come up with.
Why can’t Derik cast any more spells? Wasn’t he just involved in arrest?

No, he was just involved in arREST. In wasn’t a long arrest though, so it doesn’t count.
The Viscount is rolling in dough, so there’s no need for half-baked plans. This is just the icing on the cake.

Good catch, I didn’t see that. It could be a candle, but it could also be a fuse inside a candle.
Are they going to do a “file” in the cake gag? A file containing a knock scroll, 3 spells? They may free the anti paladin too, as a diversion.

Oh gee, and halflings are notoriously allergic to cake. It’s a genetic thing.
Okay, I knew the viscount was evil, but trying to get an innocent cake incarcerated? That is totally uncalled for.
Is it a file-in-a-cake or a or a cake of file-o-dough with many layers of surprise? For the rank-and-file? At least the rank-without-a-file.
What if the cake has many lawyers of surprise? It could be filed with with gingerbread. And sweetened by hone-y,
Errm… has anyone else noticed that the dungeon has stairs? And that the Viscount is pushing a wheeled trolley?
