See, this is what happens, Ms. Bai, when you wear your biases so blantantly as to bring in rarely-enforced (or outright UNenforced) rules in what amounts to a bloodsport played by sociopaths.

Or, y’know, make the mistake of standing on the field during such a game when you’re not one of the competitors.

I mean, really – if she’s a probation officer for criminals in a fantasy kingdom where legal bloodsport is an accepted part of the government’s trial and punishment system, she should *know* better. Rookie mistake, Bai.

Okay, fair point. It’s still about as dumb as sticking your head through an obvious noose, though.

Well, Stabs’ team just got its opponents accused of treason. Between this and the whole prison thing, they’re not making themselves very likeable, so I’d say it’s fair to show them a bit of bias against them.

I don’t disagree that there’s many aspects of them that are dislikable, however, here’s three anti-proofs.

1: As far as anyone knows, yes, Stabs team was in fact the first responders against this groups of assassins. Especially considerring the pringess herself is now trying to kill said assassins. Although in the scenario where you believe that’s bupkiss, you penalize them for THAT accusation.
2: This game is clearly played up as a bloodsport. Penalizing for spilling blood, especially in humorous manners, is bad sportsmanship and just builds up fan support for the group as they become the group being kept down ‘by the man’ more and more with each penalty you right out. It’d be like in Wrestling giving a penalty for trying to grab your opponent. Not the actions performed after, but just trying to get a grapple -started-.
3: The more obvious and significant these penalties get, the less the team is obligated to act in manners accordant with the rules of the setting. Meaning, it’s encouraging them to break the laws.

If a team breaks the rules a lot they will lose because of the sheer amount of penalties incurred. Sure, they’ll cause a ruckus for one game with nothing left to lose, but eventually the disorderly will get filtered out. And if you allow fighting in between rounds, like Slobspierre did, you risk the game devolving into an outright fight, losing the game aspects.

Bai aughta watch the game rather closely, if only to look for things to catch the giants on. She may just have noticed that stabs shouted about assasins the moment her team member got in trouble. The frogs haven’t done anything to attack the princess, either. Oh and calling the bluff on something the princess believes may be a rather risky move considering how on edge she is around the assasin thing.

You really don’t watch much Wrestling do you?

Previously, they had the making of a ‘heel’, but by simply responding to every possible slight mistake they do, Bai is making them into a ‘Face’ so hard it’d make John Cena green with envy. Especially considerring that, as far as we know (As this might be mimicking baseball) it’s possible for them to take -infinite- time finishing their innings, while they wait for their opponents to recover. In which case, while that would be a very ‘heel’ move, they can justify it by simply pointing out how CLEARLY the game was stacked against them from the very start.

Further, should I point out the Swingwraiths ‘uniforms’? Unless by ‘uniform’ violations they simply mean out of clothing, in which case, I’d like to point out that all of the biological party members, INCLUDING Cube, actually do wear SOMETHING. Or was she really giving a 10 point deficit for not wearing shoes to a species that cannot wear shoes in a game that very explicitly includes monstrous races? Such as, oh, I dunno, the Swingwraiths, or the Bullywugs, or the Trolls, or, gods help us all THE FRIGGIN’ ELVES (…No, that wasn’t a jab at fungi, read some elven lore durn you :P).

But sure, sure, the bureaucrat who is acting ‘just according to the rules’ when the rules are otherwise minimally or unenforced in correlation to the games is a completely innocent bystandard who is doing their job positively and well. They’re DEFINITELY not accidentally acting as a publicity agent for the group they’re trying to harm in this instance, and DEFINITELY not a ‘RIDICULOUSLY good’ one.

What’s the worst thing they can do at this point? Make her take part in the Games?

Worst thing would be Ms. Bai is a VERY high level monk and that little stunt just left her free to kick Stabs’ ass.

The atl-text should’ve read ‘Hook, line, and sink her.’

….but then again I’ve always had an unhealthy appreciation for a good pun.

Ms. Bai isn’t sinking, as she’s just landing herself in a very stable Wartholo-Bai ship.

I’m thinking that it doesn’t matter how many penalty point you have if the other team isn’t in any shape to stop your from scoring as many points as you would like.

This is the exact play, I’ll bet. If Cube is smart, which he is, then he’s probably got the ball right now and is just sliding back and forth over the goal line.

By time this is over, I expect the other team will be disqualified on account of being dead.

The bullywug captain’s running out of toadies fast.

Also, if the princess head-butted a bullywug, would that count as kiss and make the bullywug human?

Well, if you’re going out, may as well go out in style.

Now we all know this arc isn’t going to just end with the Giants kicked out; we still have the match with Drago’s team, there’s the whole unfinished business with Malevolus and the Viscount, and Robespierre is obviously involved with that “Called Shot Heard ‘Round the World” mentioned at the very start of this arc. But it’ll probably take a small miracle to keep the Giants in the game at this point.

Hm, there’s an idea. If you can’t hope to score enough, pile some penalties onto your opponents. Given how convinced the captain is of ‘mammal conspiracy’, he’s probably going to retaliate, and I imagine some steep penalties for attacking one of the game’s organizers.
