How many times do we have to stick a fork in him until he’s done?

      Apparently at least once more.

But do remember Cube has teammates.

That is one bloody hand holding a lit stick of dynamite (with a rather short fuse). I think Grinner is planning a blaze of glory…let’s watch.

Remember that the last time he left the comic he did it stage left AND stage right, at once.

Having had it happen once, he has less fear of doing it again.

Cube is mostly liquid, isn’t he??? If he engulfs Grinner completely wouldn’t that extinguish the fuse????

Probably not. Most fuses can stay lit in water long enough for the explosive to go off. Fuses usually either contain some type of oxidizer or else black powder. Ever hear of fishing with dynamite?

So? He is acid. Everything but the gloves (and maybe the hands) are getting dissolved.

Dynamite going off in your body is bad even if a gnoll is dissolving in it.

No, no, he means that the fuse/dynamite will get eaten away by the acid.

I’m pretty sure that will, at worst, only render Cube into adorable Quads.

You know, as great of a villain as Grinner has been; and as much as Cube has been treated WITH JUSTIFICATION as an instant win button, I kind of hope Grinner’s ‘Taking you with me’ ploy works.

Where has Maddie gone? Wasn’t she between the ledge and cube? And isn’t that the direction that Grinner was flung?

    • White Rice
      June 11, 2015, 1:09 pm | # | Reply

She’s still there, Grinner just got fling to a different part of the ledge. After the windup, it looks like cube swung in a horizontal motion (at least at the end when Grinner left the trident/fork) and we don’t know if cube himself turned during the beating. If it was a single stab-n-fling I’d be worried about the lack of Maddie, but the way it is works so far.

You should still be able to see her in the second panel though. You’ve seen Maddie THROUGH Cube before, and the author has proven that he has a very close attention to detail several times now. I can’t help but feel like there is clues to be gleaned from what’s left out as well as what’s left in.

So hey, what are the chances you might ever team up with Reaper to put out Rusty & Co. Minis?

    • TehTimmah
      June 11, 2015, 1:00 pm | # | Reply

Reaper already has a rust monster, gelatinous cube, and a treasure chest mimic. Though I think Impact Miniatures, or Soda Pop would be a better bet for the feel of the characters.

    He’s goin’ down,
    Cube’s crushing Grinner,
Our hero has the perfect chance.

    Defeated gnoll,
    Did no one teach you?
Don’t hide explosives near your pants.

I foresee either the dynamite bouncing off cube (he is very springy) or a missing Maddie coming to save the day. Maybe both.

Does anybody remember the expression “hoist by his own petard”. “Hoist” meant to be sent into the air by an explosion.(Think “Team Rocket is Blasting Off Again”.) A petard was an old type of hand grenade with a notoriously unreliable timing mechanism (fuze). I think that Grinner is going to get a bang out of it.

      June 12, 2015, 7:19 pm | # | Reply

More accurately, a petard is literally just a bucket of gunpowder that you glued to the door of some castle you needed breached (a predecessor to modern plastic explosives as used in demolition).

Well, if Maddie’s still alive, she must remember how Grinner got her last time with the dynamite surprise. Bet she learned from that. I’m hopeful she has an equally explosive surprise for him.

Just got through Shadow of Mordor. Favorite move = finger hanging off edge, soon as orc gets near, sword through gut and fork over into the air. Think Maddie went over the edge?

artistic question, why does grinner have 5 fingers and 3 toes? i mean it looks good, but i’m curious of the decision. love the art and story a lot, just curious.

He is a Gnoll. He has wolf feet, and human hands.

Actually hyena feet, last I knew. Gnolls are supposed to resemble human/hyena crosses, IIRC from my days playing D&D (or actually, evenings…)
