Never let the wizard put her hands where you can’t see ’em.

    Especially with a bottle.

I think Presti already used the bottle to dope the cotton candy she fed Slobber.

Isn’t Mimic protected by that… whatever it is?

      February 18, 2015, 12:33 pm | # | Reply

I would have said some sort of permanent Forcecage, but I could be wrong.

Anyway, it would only protect Mimic for as long as the spell/item last. Bad time for your protective spell to wear off when you are inside a lake of lava. And even if the item lasts forever, that only means Mimic got to stay forever at the bottom of a lake of lava, as it could be slightly difficult to go fetch him.
Although, Summon Fire Elemental could be of some help…

Whatever the magical box actually is, I suspect the padlock on it would melt distressingly quickly.

Only until he suffocated. Aberrations still need to breathe, and even if that box is permeable to oxygen, lava isn’t.

Lava is not a hot water. You are unlikely to sink to the bottom, unless you are made of material, that is denser than 2250-2800 kg/m³ (depending on the type of Lava).

So, if cage will protect Mimic, he will just float on top of it, almost like standing on solid floor.

Well, assuming the box itself doesn’t heat up, which it very well could given that it is solid enough to hold

On the other hand, if this comic obeyed physic, the bright color of the lava shows a really big temperature and thus, by convection and rayonnement, everybody present should be badly burn(ing) and dead.

Assuming that weird box is immune to lava, the question is one of density. Lava is about three times denser than water. Grinner is holding Mimic (and weird box) pretty easily with one hand, so they can’t be all that heavy. If he was holding three times that volume of water in one hand (in a box or something) he’d have difficulties. Therefore the box would float, and Mimic is in no danger.
…Unless the writer remembers about convection. Then he’s still screwed.

If the writers remember about convection, GRINNER is screwed, along with Maddie and Wossername and the girallon, and probably everyone else. You can’t stand anywhere NEAR lava without being roasted alive; the entire cavern should be like the inside of an oven set on “extra crispy”.

Well yes and no. You can stand near and even on top of lava without being “roasted alive”… providing the top has cooled to provide a surface. Scientists getting samples and people fighting lava flows do it all the time.

Presumably this cave has had something done to it to make the air inside breathable or everyone would have passed out from lack of air. Maybe this is why no one has commented on the heat inside the cave?
Grinner may be screwed though, his feet are standing very close to the edge would you would think would be very hot. His arm is now extended over the lava so he should be feeling the heat coming off it.

only that lava isn’t cooled, since it’s red it’s obviously still in the “fricking hot” stage. even when it’s cooled enough to form a shell it is still pretty hot (I’d advise against walking on it bare foot) if we were being realistic, that cave would be full of toxic fumes, and too hot to stand in without a heck of a lot of protective measures.

but that wouldn’t make a very dramatic story now would it?

on a side note the box mimic is in appears to have a crack on it… meaning it’s not indestructable, meaning that if he does drop mimic it probably isn’t going to last long before it melts… not that mimic has to worry about that as he’d probably be cooked alive long before that

Cube or Maddie to the rescue? Or are we going to cut to Maddie rescuing Cube?

Stabs to the rescue. Probably deeply frustrated by this point. It may make her ingenious.

Maddie is already lavadiving after the tightrope act, I think. Grinner may be about to get a Paladin Surprise.

Eh, it’s not like lava does a lot of hp damage.

Immersion in it does 20d6 per round, and 10d6 per round for a couple rounds after you climb out. That can add up fast.

It looks like he was hit by a bead of force.

But that would last 7 minutes and is immune to lava till over so it can’t be that I guess. Unless that gnoll knows duration almost up and lavas would soon deal damage when it ends.

And just what does Presti have in that bottle?

    Or is it “had?”

That’s the “healing potion” that the fake Stabs handed her.

Hm, can Mimic simply turn into something like 150 cubic feet (or even bigger) baloon and just fly away as soon as forcecage is gone?

Panel 4 may be a subtle tribute either to Blazing Saddles or to the genre which it lampoons

How many eyes does this cotton-candy-critter have?
In the 1st 2 panels, we see eyes above Presti, but in Panels 3, 5 & 6 it has eyes below-&-left of Presti.
