Wasn’t it something to do with her using her detect evil ability to sense enemies?

          That was one speculation.

I think it was one of the rare ones that has been precluded, because we’ve seen her fight neutral beings.

Perhaps she uses it to detect trace amounts of good/evil energy in people/objects like daredevils radar sense.

Or she just has regular radar sense from a magic item, a natural ability, kung fu training or an old spell.

I realize the feat chain is for Pathfinder, but it could be house-ruled in without too much trouble.

Paladins are immune to fear. It may well be that she has a fear of heights, but gets over it by not looking, and that’s how that bit of her fear-immunity works.

        December 10, 2014, 11:27 am | # | Reply

She closes her eyes whenever she fights. . . it would have to be more generally applicable fear. Like, say, a fear of blood.

Wow, a thrilling high-wire duel. The last all-action-no-words comic (with the Girallon) left me feeling cheated, but this one is amazing.

Any thoughts on what class Wossername is? I’m kind of thinking Ninja, or maybe a weird knife-wielding Monk.

She could be a… wossname… Shadowdancer.

        December 9, 2014, 9:58 am | # | Reply

I’m thinking more rogue/assassin myself. She hasn’t demonstrated any of the Shadow-manipulation abilities of a Shadowdancer, and Monks are required to be Lawful. Derro usually aren’t.

Curious, does Maddie not have Lay on Hands? Paladins in 4E are *really* hard to kill …

      December 4, 2014, 9:11 am | # | Reply

I think this comic plays by custom 3.5 rules, not 4E. Actually, does anyone play 4.x? All I heard are complains about it. Plus, anyone old enough will notice Maddy is an inversion of old 1.x paladins, that sucked at DEX, she has high DEX and a Blind fighting feat, with a dump ststs in INT, but since she is lawful good, it kind of fits. Being lawful good with high intelligence must suck.

Early reports on 5 are even worse. Lay on Hands is called for at this point.

From what I’ve seen of 5, it’s a vast improvement. I think they realized trying to make D&D into MMO-lite was a big mistake and decided to make 5 with 3 as a base, and cut down complications from there.

Look back on the chapter with the vampires. She does lay on hands to Mimic, after clobbering him with her shov.. er, Vorpal Halberd. This would be right after Ezra the hipster vampire used Dominate Person. I think it’s more likely that she doesn’t use it for herself, because she might need to heal an ally with it at some point. Or she just forgets that she can do it. I give it 50/50 either way honestly.

        December 5, 2014, 1:05 pm | # | Reply

Well in this case, she hasn’t yet had a chance to use it. She just got stabbed, she hasn’t had a turn since.

          December 5, 2014, 2:35 pm | # | Reply

She also didn’t use it to heal herself while fighting against the vampires’ hipster god thing, though she could have used it all on Mimic. I’m not sure how 3.5 works anymore, since its been a while since I played it. However, she should have had uses when she got to the bar, since it looked like a new day had passed. Hopefully she’ll use it soon. She can’t have recovered all those lost hitpoints in a few days.

My recollection (I’ve been playing Pathfinder for a while, which has much better Lay on Hands powers than 3.5) is that Paladins basically got a set number of hit points they could recover per day with LoH–talking like (Chamod)(Lvl) or something really low like that, so even a 6th level paladin ends up with something like 12-18 points/day if they have good Cha

Though Maddie’s Charisma is clearly through the roof (she’s so adorable), so she probably had between 24-36 hp of LOH in that scene, probably up to 28-42 now.
