I had a DM pull something similar to this.

Most of my party said “What are they gonna do, attack us MORE?!” and ran right by the ticket counter.

I dutifully paid for my ticket.

And the DM smiled and had a carnie stop me from running in. “No, the attraction’s not in there, it’s this way.”

I had a fight, but THEY had a wipe. The look on their faces was priceless when the DM stopped me from joining the carnage.

People need to realize that Chekov’s gun is a thing. If the DM mentions something, it’s worth paying attention to it.

I always defused Chekov’s gun with random things: “Roll your !”

      Players: “10.” “8.” “14.”

me/DM: /grunts/ ” Okay, you don’t notice anything – now what do you do?”

      (There actually wasn’t anything.)

        Oops . . . that should read:

always defused Chekov’s gun with random things: “Roll your /stat/!”

        Players: “10.” “8.” “14.”

me/DM: /grunts/ ” Okay, you don’t notice anything – now what do you do?”

I often do the same, only the last sentence is often just an “OK”.

I had a DM doing something similar : a door with “knock and enter”.
Before a gigantic roomin a crypt.
Among us 4 Two knoked and 2 didnt.
at the center of the place, a trap (ligning) affecting only those who didnt, but alos a druid, warned by the knock and buffed for 2…

Play along or revolt, this need compromises

Unless, of course, your GM realizes the “GM said it, must be important” rule and proceds to add copious amounts of detail that are just there to muddy the waters. Got two players in my current campaign that have yet to adjust to actually *thinking* about the details and using common sense to separate metal from dross.

I’ve been told I’m rather an arse.
Oh, one more thing – never assume that your agenda directly corresponds to that of any given NPC. Anyone ever notice that “adventurer” and “expendable” both have four syllables and an antipenultimate stress?

This is not a safe attraction at all. That river of lava is almost right after the ticket booth. Good thing there’s not a crowd of people trying to get in to see. That could be downright fatal.

The river of lava might be a new addition for the battle with Madeline.

Come one, come all! Feast your eyes on the Greatest Show on Middle Earth! I foresee a might scene which should have this musical accompaniment.

I’m almost disappointed that the Derro didn’t say anything about her paying first. But there is always next week.

Dilemma maybe? After all, it’s usually bad business to kill paying customers no matter how obnoxious. But then, working retail, I’ve wanted to turn the heat lamps on quite a few people since yesterday.

Maddie pulled off *exactly* ten tickets. That’s pretty slick.

Anyone wanna place guesses on Maddie’s Dexterity score?

Standing theories are that it’s pretty high – all her combat abilities seem to be focused around blindfighting and dodging.

Way higher than her INT or WIS.
