      Sure seems that way.

Maddie also remains awesome. Awesome Maddie is far superior to any silly ninja.

I wonder, is she not falling for a trap, or is she getting those 10 tickets so she can enter fairly?

I vote for the tickets. Was the first thing to cross my mind.

Could be both, but whatever happens, I sure hope she’s getting tickets because… well, that would be so Maddie!

Maybe it’s a trap that only goes off if you don’t have ten tickets?

      …Maybe it’s a trap that doesn’t go off if you do…

Ever get the feeling that she could possibly give Princess a run for her money in a fight?

    • Peregry
      November 19, 2014, 4:56 pm | # | Reply

Probably not. Maddie is really in her element right now: fighting evildoers. Princess is not Evil, and therefor Maddie isn’t going to be anywhere need full strength against her.

        November 19, 2014, 9:20 pm | # | Reply

What if it’s not a straight-up, head-to-head fight? Whar if it’s some form of contest, say “whoever clears out their half of the enemy army first wins”?

        • TehTimmah
          November 21, 2014, 10:44 pm | # | Reply

Yeah, I don’t mean actually fighting eachother, so much as being on an equal level of butt-kickery. Other than the DM’s Girlfriend bonuses to hit and damage rolls of course.

Maddie now confirmed to have both Improved Unarm Strike and Deflect Arrows… maybe Combat Reflexes and a decently high Dex too. She really reminds me of Paladins my wife plays. They seem flighty at first glance, and often do random wacky things (using suboptimal weapons, etc), but then completely wreck enemies and prove to be some of the better built Paladins mechanically.

And she does it by picking what “feels” right for the character at any level… without detailed planning on min-maxing.

    Its kinda terrifying, really.

Rather than just deflect arrows she’d also need the epic feat infinite deflection given the number of missiles she is stopping all at once.

      • Nerva
        November 20, 2014, 1:51 pm | # | Reply

Okay, Deflect Arrows explains the shuriken, Infinite Deflection explains the sheer number of projectiles, but what about the falling sandbag?

The rules for Deflect Arrows states “Unusually massive ranged weapons … can’t be deflected”. That sandbag is about as thick as Maddie and a little more than half her height, which means that it’s at least a Small object, maybe Medium-size. To put it in perspective, it’s about the same size as the rocks thrown by most giants.

I figured the sandbag was a decoy, rather than a trap.

I would have guessed Combat Expertise if I weren’t fairly certain her Intelligence is too low. Maybe she’s using the Fighting Defensively action?

or just a really high AC, including a good dex bonus and some parrying bonus.
deflecting attack is the parrying part of the ac

Uhoh… serious angry-face that is sticking around. Usually when she fights blind she seems serene, but not today. I imagine trickery makes her about as angry as complicated sentences that she can’t understand. 😉
I do love this character. I mean, I love all the characters in this comic, but Maddie and Cube never fail to make my day.

Disappointing update today – little more than a filler strip on a story line that has dragged on for months now. There should have been some serious tension building by now.

      Jeff,
Be aware that this strip exists in spite of serious obstacles, and be polite when asking for a refund on completely free offerings.

        Chuck,
Yes because a refund is *exactly* what I was asking for! How did you know?!

What I am saying is that this was a disappointing update that was little more than a filler strip on a story line that has dragged on for months now and that there should have been some serious tension building by now. Any of that sound familiar?

Whoa Jeff, stop pulling completely new arguments out of thin air! Stick to your original point XD

I get the frustration you feel at the pace of this strip, but you have to remember that webcomics function like that. Unless the artist takes a hiatus to make several strips at once, these normally high-action scenes that naturally come back to back have to wait for weekly updates. The tension of a fast paced battle gets reduced due to the wait, and fights tend to feel like they are longer than they actually are. This page would normally be a fast read intended to show you the skills and style of her opponent, but appears as filler because there is currently no follow-up. That will change soon, you just gotta stick around a little bit.

      Wah.

Take a break from it and come back in a couple months. Is what I do when a webcomic gets a little slow.

Webcomics that have even a semblance of story have to intersperse low-action character development and bridging strips to keep things flowing and consistent.

Also, not everything you dislike is disliked by anyone other than you. For example, I think the pace of the strip and the action in this specific one is just about right.

I wonder if the advice she got from the psion kick in…did the poster with ‘feet’ in it inform her somehow?

The advice for Madeline from #16 was already good for revealing the clownfish.

So, as far as I can tell, the only advice still out is for Rusty, to avoid lead…

Advice had nothing to do with the clownfish, it was all thanks to her trident of warning.

Maddie, if you keep frowning this hard you’ll have to be teamed up with Judge Dredd soon.
