Don’t worry Presti, nobody prepares for high velocity badgers! You can fire badgers from your teeth right?

She doesn’t need to. Stabs has the launcher. And our Crazy Prepared friend is not aware of its abilities, otherwise our fake Stabs would not have said it was too heavy to carry. (hmm. Unless they thought that was just the sort of transparent excuse Stabs would resort to.)

Wouldn’t they see the interaction between Stabs and Presti on camera? I also bet that they know her strength score. Somehow. They know everything else…

Anyway, what would a rhino do to an elemental? Ram it, with Presti and dynamite inside?

The dynamite is kinda unnecessary, shes buried in cotton candy so if she tried a fireball the burning part would be right up against her skin…if it were on the outside then it would work (one of my Brothers once toasted a marshmallow on his finger…even lit it on fire so I guess sugar is a poor heat conductor)

Sugar is a poor heat conductor, but it’s also very, very flammable at the same time, and it melts into a horrible molten form, so she’d have one of the world’s worst days if she did that.

yeah…If she has any frost ray-like spell shell be all set…freeze and wiggle.

OTOH, she might not know that. She’s wanted alive, after all, for the mob.

I wonder how golems react to poison.

Immune, unless this one has some special rules for it.

The enemy has nigh-omniscient intel and enough magic to counter your “power through it” stuff…

This is the sort of thing that everybody having a contingency clone is good for.

Also, Mimic’s in a forcecage. If she toasted that golem (and herself,) she could blow Grinner to kingdom come, then wait to get rezzed.

Grinner has really thought this through. Love it when “weak” monsters are played with intelligence. (Of course, the same level of planning assigned to a wizard or a dragon breaks the entire campaign, but that’s the point of doing it with gnolls and fighters instead.)

The dynamite is not red, therefore clearly it is a fake!

Looks pretty much red to me. One of us needs to be checked for color blindness. Also, dynamite doesn’t have to be red, as that color was chosen due to its universal danger sense,

        July 2, 2014, 5:36 am | # | Reply

There is also the fact that the earth added to stabilise the explosif was slightly red as well.

I think it’s fake because Grinner wants to take Presti alive. Even if she doesn’t call his bluff, there’s a lot of ways that dynamite could get set up, and even with the Tentacallis’ support, he can’t plan for them all. You can’t cover all the angles. The angles are fractal.

        June 26, 2014, 9:30 am | # | Reply

You can burn dynamite in a fire with no explosion. That’s the reason blasting caps are used to detonate dynamite. The fuse should lead to a blasting cap.

except fireball is an explosion and would set off the dynamite anyway.
What she need is a lvl0 acid or water spell, and Then, a fireball

Nope. See, the rules specifically say that fireball is fire only, no blast. It’d still light the fuses, of course, but shouldn’t set of the main charge if fire wouldn’t.

I doubt it’s fake, but I must admit that it would be entirely in character for Grinner – after the fact – to say, “Oh, by the way, that dynamite? It was actually just some cheese logs I wrapped in red paper. Heh heh.”

Maybe a freeze spell left? Fast freeze for cotton candy brittle & to solidify the nitro in the dynamite, or, wait around for rescue … Hm.

But then any digging in her belt pouch might trigger the golem to (correctly) interpret that as an escape attempt, then it’s candy crush time.

I would probably go for Create Water spell at this point. The question is: can you go around the rule “conjuration spells canโ€™t create substances or objects within a creature” if you are within the creature yourself?

The bazooka was water-powered, right ?
So, maybe Stabs can use it to disolve the sugar-elemental ๐Ÿ˜‰

Every mage character I make carries wears a ring of fire resistance for exactly this sort of situation! You’d be amazed how many situations can be resolved by dropping a fireball at point-blank range.

In D&D ? howmuch cost a ring protecting from fire enough t resist a fireball?
(5d6 / 10d6 -> you would need something like fire res 30 to be reasonnably safe, and it is expensive.

an alternative is ame sepultural , absolute frost spell, and cone of frost (or substitution of destructive energy)

        March 19, 2016, 7:07 pm | # | Reply

A Greater Ring of Fire Resistance would cost less than that bazooka monstrosity of hers. However, it wouldn’t help in this case, since a fireball on her position would set off the dynamite (assuming it’s not a bluff), and dynamite shouldn’t do fire damage.

Oh presti, don’t you know that diversity in prepared spells is key to a wizard? Only fire spells? Really?

She had fire area spell, ray spell, disguise person, charm person , a teleport,
so a good diversity. She only have 5 spell per level per day, after all

My thoughts exactly – the whole “a lesser monster plays smart” thing works a lot better when they’re getting good use out of cheap items, not when they have access to overpoweringly powerful tools. With that kind of power, this whole plan of his seems rather Rube Goldberg; the smart option would be a hell of a lot simpler.
