You must admit it’s only equitable for them to disguise themselves as you when you’ve disguised yourself as them.

Ah, but when PCs disguise themselves with magic, they congratulate themselves for being so clever. When enemies do it, they’re being low-down, no-good sneaky slimy jerks who must be killed.

I think Maddie would object to that claim.

Presti: “Amateurs. You can’t even get the armor right, and I once bluffed a SCENT.”

I am seriously starting to like these Gnomes. They’re fun opponents. I think I’ll have to steal them sometime when I’m GMing!

They’re not Gnomes, they’re Derro! Deranged Human/Dwarf hybrids who worship eldritch horrors and were driven into the Underdark by an ancient cataclysm! You can tell the difference between Derro and real Dwarves or Gnomes by the sickly blue pallor of their skin. (As opposed to the healthy ebon pallor of Drow Elves, or the naturally grey pallor of Duegar Dwarves.)

From the Monster Manual: “Derro are afflicted by a form of racial madness, which most often manifests as delusions of grandeur coupled with an overpowering urge to inflict torment on other creatures.”

        Well, that explains the circus.

At least they’re speaking coherent sentences, and not gibbering wildly.

Derro are nororious for their unique brand of insanity, and nothing would be more insane than trying to re-summon the eldritch horror Rusty, Mimic, Cube and Maddy banished. Especially while wearing clown costumes.

They’re not costumes…they’re uniforms, designed by their REAL boss: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=rKV2k-SOk8Q

Those playing cards have me thinking Tubalcain Alhambra from Hellsing Abridged.

Is that a Deck of Many Things he’s waving around?!? Not even a Derro would be that crazy! Oh, right, they would be.

Doubtful. DoMT cards take effect immediately and and vanish (back into the box, in most cases). And you can only pull one at a time.

Ah, but you can probably hold the whole deck in your hand no problem. A regular deck of cards isn’t to big.

As long as it’s in the box, you can. Remember, the Deck is a minor artifact in 3E.

This comic ain’t 3e… it ain’t no ‘e’… it’s pure uncut D&D, raw Gygaxian straight from the cane.

Someone should really tell that idiot to stop wasting charges of that wand dispelling his own disguise spell. You can dismiss your own spells whenever you want, for free. Unless one of the other guys cast it for him, I guess.

This is not true for all spells, only certain ones are dismissable. However it is true about Disguise Self, and that’s most likely the spell he had on him. We know it’s not Alter Self because his clothes were disguised also (unlike Presti’s).

Disguise Self wouldn’t allow such a height difference. Maybe it was Alter Self to become Maddie-sized and then Disguise Self to get the armor?

The new guy in panel 4 has one of those double-vision image effects going on. Look at him one way and he’s a derro. Look at him another way and he’s… some kind of computer nerd? Something like that? Some guy with weird glasses, anywho.

Knowing how dwarven-types like Derro tend to use magic and are more magic-resistant and have natural toughness in a fight, Presti and Stabs need to think harder. That is, they’ve got to remember what Zar told them to consider. Seeing that Presti just got counter-spelled, they’ve got to have a counter for Stabs–and I’m betting it’s in the next episode.

love how the Dispel wand has the circle-with-a-line-through-it that is the equivalent of “no” used on signs.
