In his area of expertise, Rusty is the sharpest of them all. Even Stabs didn’t notice the gold first.

I don’t think gold can rust

Just like a jack rabbit is really a hare, the rust monster must not really rust the metals, since it can eat anything, regardless of whether it’s ferrous.

Not under normal conditions, but it is possible. (At least, it’s possible to make gold oxide.)

Wait – so this rusty stuff isn’t real gold? What a fool I’ve been!

This quote is taken from the comment section of 1-31 of this web comic, it explains the rust monster.
P.S. Gygax is(was, he’s in a better dungeon layout now.) one of the creators of D&D so his word trumps all.

      That may be true, sasrail…BUT!

This here is D&D! To quote Gygax: “They roam such places in search of their food – metals of all sorts, but principally ferrous based metals…they will go after … copper, silver, etc.”

They eat iron and steel, but like scarfing down ramen if there’s nothing else handy, they’ll eat gold, silver, and other metals, too!”

Depending on how you want to take that… Copper and silver do “rust” if you stretch the word a bit. Gold? Not so much.

          Two words: aqua regia.

Granted it’s not rust per se, but it’s still dissolvable!

It’s about as far from “rust” as you can get. Rusting is oxidising in air, especially if it’s a bit damp. That’s basically the same as tarnishing, but very different from dissolving gold in an alchemical mixture. If you stretch “rusting” to mean “oxidising in air” that’s not that big a deal. Stretching “rust” to mean “any chemical reaction at all” is a different matter.

Calamitus explained this in the third mail set. Same reason a properly set up Mage can burn fire elementals to death.

Please, please name the wizard Yasgur !!

“Said, I’m going down to Yasgur’s farm
Going to join in a rock and roll band
Got to get back to the land, and set my soul free.
We are stardust, we are golden
We are billion year old carbon
And we got to get ourselves back to the garden”

I suspect there’s an interesting story (or perhaps a series thereof) that would elaborate on it.

Never sneak up on a halfling rogue, they tend to carry many sharp pointy knives with them. She might also have Bracers of Infinite Blades as a back up.

And Swagner, she didn’t hear the guy coming and he was right behind her, she’s acting on instinct to stab whatever comes after her before it grabs her.

I prefer Roxie’s, in panel 4…. the sudden realisation of “hang on… why would Rusty want to eat flowers?”

“Groovy, dude?” with a question mark, since she’s still not quite sure what’s going on. MUCH funnier.

Stabs’ last panel reaction is absolutely hilarious, as has been the entire archive. The entirety of your drawn facial expressions ‘catalog’ is definitely a Godsend. Your ability to imagine, then design and illustrate the faces of known and especially unknown beings, let’s just say you’re on a short list, imo. The remainder of your work is also great.
