And lo, she emerges from her trance of sacred slaying
When no longer black and white th’opposition’s seeming
Shall there soon be, some intervening Diplomacy?
Or a rescuing backslash and a finishing thrust?
    Magnificent work, sir Mike.

Victim of the relic? Ah, Madeline, what will happen to these “victims” if you undo it?

No, he is a victim of the cruel harsh world that has no place for monsters except monstrosity and becoming adventurers themselves.

Hey, what happened to the contest for naming the hipster vampires?

The votes are all tallied, but you’ll just have to wait for the vampires to introduce themselves to find out who won.

Ooo. Good question. Is it Mister Kraken or Monster Kraken? Federation or Empire? (oh, wrong universe)

Meanwhile, still waiting to see if the relic starts twiddling with our monster adventurer trio.

They’ve spent too long on this fight. If they want to complete this quest, they need to get kraken.

What is that moat composed of? And who thinks the monster is serious or if it’s just a ploy?

    • Mary
      May 17, 2012, 1:59 pm | # | Reply

Serious, of course. All the monsters have been serious thus far. Indeed, I was noticing that the kraken was still acting awfully monstrously despite the puppets — but it’s all the fault of the vampires, it seems.

        “You’re attacked by crocodiles.”
        “Can I keep one?”
“Also there are some witcheswhat how?”
“I’ve got a ton of points in Handle Animal, haven’t really gotten to use it. I want a crocodile.”
        “Uhh… sure? Roll.”
        “Nat-20 :D”

Is it wrong that my mental image here is of Madeline doing a flying tackle-hug on a crocodile from thirty feet away and squee-ing while everyone else looks on in horror/awe? Then dragging the confused creature back to the party with a “Omygods, it’s so cute! Can I keep it!?”

          May 17, 2012, 7:29 am | # | Reply

Yeah, pretty much. If the megaloceros hadn’t already charged the party, she’d’ve probably tried to keep it.

Paladin of Hades. Her Kryptonite…the cuteness proximity.

This is exactly what my character would do

Me: Sqweeeee (except not because my character is both a half-orc and male) can I keep it?
Group Leader: No you can’t keep the Cryohydra
Me: But I already got him a suit [holds up a properly sized/fitted suit of adamantium full plate]
Group Leader: Where did you get that from?!
Me: I made it during the last combat round

Some thoughts…..For a Paladin it IS black & White; if it is an evil monster it must be destroyed (other evils, such as humans, elfs, etc, may be brought back to town to face justice). Just as for a Dwarf, there are no good Dragons! Dragons and Dwarves both want the gold and gems, thus the two are natural foes, like the Paladin and the Evil Monster. I think her Temple was happy to send her out on the road; too much empthy. The relic must be destroyed! A Kraken who thinks He is Mr. Rodgers; now that’s EVIL!!! Strip keeps getting better 🙂

Pshaw! A cunning ruse – if they were truly good-aligned, they’d team up with the party* and lay waste to the various evil monsters, instead of sitting on a heap of gold that they could be handing out to beggars, and thinking up riddles to annoy the players with.

*For a suitable percentage, of course: a full share, plus expenses, plus the 20% I’m a Dragon surcharge…

          20%?!?!

I never interact with adventurers for less than 85%.

          }8=)

Dragons do not fall on the standard alignment chart. We’re above all that nonsense. The best approximation you can get is somewhere along the line between Lawful Greedy and Chaotic Hungry.

Is it bad that my wife plays Paladins almost exactly like Madeline, and that I hear her “cutesy/Amelia (from Slayers)” voice as the voice of Madeline?

Oh, yeah, Princess Amelia Saillun/Sayruun (For Justice!!!) Especially after the Acassi town special “Octopus Stew” episode. Buttercup! Shoe! Flat-chested!

And Lawful Stupid raises it’s head again.
I once won the “should we kill the goblin babies” argument by arguing the Gods of Goblin (Factual CONFIRMED divine beings) kind would damn their immortal souls if we raised them to be “good”.
I’ve also won the argument by saying we would come back for them then sneaking away and staging protective homicide by one of the nursemaids.

I thought that souls went to various planes based on alignment, not race? If so, the evil goblin god wouldn’t really have any say in where good goblins end up. But I suppose that a lawful stupid paladin might not have enough Knowledge(religion) to know that.

A DM who tries the “kill the goblin babies ploy” when goblins are established as Always Evil is cheating. And if the goblins are not Always Evil, there has to be some evidence for it first, or that’s cheating.

I think you meant “Stupid Good”, not Lawful Stupid. Where you try to just be friends with things that are trying to kill you. Maddie doesn’t seem to have it as bad as Piffany, but it seems that there is a little of it there.
Actual Lawful Stupid is things like trying to turn your own rogue in for petty theft. When you were already a day and a half clear of town. In the evil barony that will execute him for it.

Or Lawful Stupid could mean, for example, attempting to try and/or execute your lord who has apparently been engaging in shady (if possibly benevolent) dealings when you know AN INVADING ARMY IS COMING IN LESS THAN A WEEK.
Generally someone using the law at a terrible time, usually hand in hand with someone making ridiculous assumptions (such as in the link).
