I was just telling a friend, ‘As soon as I saw the arms, the Popeye’s Gonna Kick Some Ass theme started playing for me.’

@Bieeanda OMG! I totally had the song running through my head too!

@dalek955 Potion of Strength or Potion of Heroism I think. 3.5 only allowed spells of up to third level made into potions, don’t remember what level Tenser’s Transformation is.

It looks like you have to drink a potion of Bull’s Strength to cast Tenser’s Transformation though, according to the d20 wiki, so that might be what’s happening.

The Bull’s Strength can have an additional transformation effect, granting the drinker flight, but only if it’s the right colour.

    I hope Yuan-Tiffany is a recurring character. I think she’d make a great Level 6 companion.

Thanks for naming her; I loved it right from this first comment about it! 😀

Surprised that didn’t earn a Gnome-Prize back in the day. Now of course we just hope this comment doesn’t attract lawyers.

Nooo! It should have been spinach! You can’t mess with the classics like this, you just can’t… 🙁

Other possible side effects to potion of strength: urges to suddenly toot on a pipe, severe squinting in one eye, a tendancy to mutter. Extended use is not recommended, especially for women who risk irregular visits by “Bluto”

Anyone want to bet that was a Potion of Spinach Strength? I certainly heard the Popeye music start in fourth panel 🙂

Ah, I didn’t notice the anchor on her forearms after drinking the potion. And apparently a lot of us had the exact same idea that I did when reading this strip

Great! What next; an odd looking brown gnoll using ‘Acme’ company products to kill our heros? The Don must be hiring those laid off people from the ‘Looney Toons’ backlots.

Hm! The runes on her Popeye forearm look familiar. Obviously they’re parodying Popeye’s anchor but they’re also, I suspect, some kind of in joke. They look a bit like crop circle markings… anybody recognize the in-joke? Anybody?

      June 30, 2013, 8:56 pm | # | Reply

I don’t think there’s any additional in-joke, it’s just the Popeye anchor stylized to look like runes so that it fits in with the theme.
