Sofa Spud… You are serious? Have you ever even held a sharp object in your life? I’m not even going to get into my credentials here, as in this case they are unnecessary. Long story short… 2 inches of sharp blade, despite the other 8 inches being torn off, still equals “Death or Serious Injury” for the Elf Chick. Does she look like she is wearing armor to you?

Remember Rusty (being the uninhibited little eater that he is) already ATE her STEEL BRA which MIGHT have protected her from that upper chest shot. Last I checked cloth duds do NOT stop steel objects from ruining your internal organs…

No, as I said it is a good thing this is not real life because the Elf would be in SERIOUS trouble if it did not follow D&D logic.

My reading of this is that she isn’t stabbed at all. If you look at the shape of the blade, it’s clipped in such a way that it hasn’t gone into flesh at all. Not to mention there’s no blood. So chill.

I think so too. She wasn’t stabbed. It’s also a silly/funny comic so I suppose he simply didn’t stab the knife far enough towards the elf because he expected it to go in as it should have been longer. Kinda. Too short stab = fail. πŸ™‚ It’s funny because it’s so silly and unrealistic! πŸ˜€

And Rusty is the cutest ever! <3

Dude, seriously, it’s a comic based largely off D&D and is all about having fun with the tropes involved in it. Have you considered that you might be over thinking it a bit?

        a) Yes, it follows D&D logic, so what does reality have to do with it? For that matter, it’s a *cartoon*, so what does reality have to do with it?

        b) Have *you* ever been stabbed with the broken-off stub of a ΒΌ” thick blade? Maybe you didn’t notice, but Rusty has the sharp parts; all she’s looking at is a heavy bruise with no permanent damage (or if she’s wearing a boiled leather plastron, or has mithral chain under her shirt, not even that much).

Yes she does look like she’s wearing armor. Light armor as she specifically mentions, so probably some leather armor of some kind.

No she wasn’t wearing a steel bra, she was wearing a bra with a wire for support.

No, cloth doesn’t stop blades, but even a basic leather amor gives a +2 bonus to AC, and with the -4 penalty the Gnoll gets for attacking with an improvised weapon, he’ll have a pretty hard time dealing any damage to her, and even if he does he won’t be dealing very much.

Well, it’s about a hundred years late, but if it was real life she wouldn’t be an elf either.

Nor, for that matter, would he be a gnoll.

I like the smug “We are going to be greatly amused” look she has.

Hey hey, I distinctly remember a form of “super-tetanus” in White Plume Mountain.

j/k, and anyway rust itself doesn’t cause tetanus so Roxanne’s cool. (Sez Wikipedia, it’s the bacteria often found on old rough exposed metal sources that are likely to rust, so it won’t apply to insta-rust created by monster noms — though Rusty probably has a lot of bacteria in his mouth.)

Anyway, just found this comic last week through TVTropes, read the whole archive and I’m really enjoying it. Rusty is adorable.

The best part is Roxy throwing The Grinner’s distinctive ‘a-heh, a-heh’ right back at him…

Man, good comic as always, but I wanted to comment on the artwork. Specifically, its generally wonderful, but you are generally amazing with facial expressions. That stuff is hard to do and you nail every one perfectly, it is VERY impressive.

If you ever start taking art commissions, throw up a message here I’ll get in line. =)

Legacy is right, I was wondering why I keep looking forward to this comic each week. There are many great things about it after all. But what “nails’ it is the expressiveness of the characters. And I think Legacy hit on why — the facial expressions
      Thanks man.

Did she at least get a flesh wound from the amount of knife that was left? It looks like at least an inch of blade left, and angled enough that it should still pierce.

      I think it’s a plot point.
