    THIS is easier than jail?

I’m curious if that means that it’s easier for the Doogans (community service vs. jail time)… or if putting them to work is easier than trying to actually keep them in prison. (Both, perhaps?)

I’m assuming it’s sort of a, “if they’re in jail, they’ll have nothing to do but plot escape attempts and unlimited free time to do so”, whereas here their energies can be (at least somewhat, occasionally) productively channeled by keeping them busy.

“The warden has a thousand things on his mind but the prisoner thinks only of escape” – that’s not a situation you want the Doogans in, because with the things THEY think of to escape, you ain’t gonna have a prison left at the end of it.

And worse, you may still have the Doogans. They could wreck the prison without escaping.

If you put them in jail, they’ll be out again in 30 seconds. Put them to work here under supervision, and they’re at least being useful.

Also, they were on the winning team for the Games.

Though given their attempt to rescue Stabs, I suspect it is less than they will escape than that the jail and possibly the castle will suffer damage.

Give a man a cell, he’ll be imprisoned for a day. Give a man a job, he’ll be imprisoned for life.

Kit’s only on her first day and she’s already identified a stupidly dangerous threat to the castle defenses!

Or the castle beseigers, the Doogans are kind of like that

What I want to know is who was insane enough to have them working on castle defenses?

They aren’t. Witness they never appeared in the whole defense arcs.

They are innovating in a way that might be useful for defense.

Well, what do we know about Mr. Perkins?

      – Healing magic.
      – Likes big, strong women.
      – Gets big, strong women to like him.
      – Daughter is exceptionally good at bluffing.
      – “Mystic pilgrimages”.

      I’m thinking bard.

Actually, any class with healing would be logical as a pilgrim but bards are the least likely

I would think the equivalent for bards would be “tour”

Unless it’s Beatle the Bard. But Kit is not Yoko.

For Beatle the Bard, the equivalent of a mystic pilgrimage would be a magical mystery *tour*, no?

              (Or perhaps mystic magical *tour*?)

Mystical pilgrimage could be a monk. Or a wizard. Or druid.

“Ah! Working with monsters! Reminds me of when I met your father while rampaging for the Fire Giants!”
    “Maaa?!”
“What? I was young once, too. And your father was sooo hot with his opposite alignment!”
