Ah, so the opening introduced a character!

And was not an ominous opening! (Except that Ma may disapprove of experiments!)

I do wonder about the breakage potential of this “Kit” Katherine character.

Though I suppose she did grant Swirls’ wish in some roundabout way.

We’ve first seen swirls in level-8-3 (and level-8-64, 8-66), I think. She’s even drinking from a swirly straw.

And 8-70. She’s the second link in the chain of Dorilys consequences (counting Dory herself as 0).

Lots of scope for things there.

Not to mention 10-6. Rue’s friend. I wonder if there’s something to that.

Oh, yeah, that is Rue in the speakeasies chapter. And they’re together in the baseball episode too. Great catch.

I have this feeling Byron is a Byronic hero.

      On with the dance! let joy be unconfin’d;

      Could be an Ironic Hero…

Coincidence or a (rather obscure, IMO) reference?

There used to be a webcomic named Byron the Tauren Rogue on WoW Insider, back in the day.

Do Whitey and Grawlf have useful news about the afterlife?

Whitey: Situation normal – all fouled up.
Grawlf: Turns out you can’t dissect or draw blood from ghosts. Boring.

At least in normal D&D lore, people don’t remember any afterlives or what happened to them after they died when they are brought back.
Still, it’s possible? Madeline did, after all. Although that could have been a rare occurrence that’s not easily repeated. I also doubt they were dead for as long as Madeline was. Unless Derek or Dorilys or another cleric on staff needed to rest to prepare a resurrection spell.

Place your bets! Will Presti be glad she skipped the meeting, or deeply regret it?

Oh, hey, Mama Perkins! Was wondering if we’d see her again. Now I’m curious to see Papa Perkins, who is apparently a wizard in his own right.

The only thing we know about him so far is that he uses healing magic, so probably a cleric, druid, or bard. Or maybe ranger or paladin, or a more exotic non-core class (but not a psionic healer, because he was specifically stated to heal with magic). Wizard or sorcerer is unlikely, even if with some variant class options it might be possible for those to acquire access to healing magic.

Hmm, that’s an interesting notion. So, five likely candidates for his job:

Cleric: Member of a local clergy
Druid: Caretaker of nature (fits with their home being deep in the forest)
        Bard: Pro musician
        Ranger: Natural caretaker and hunter
Paladin: Member of local clergy and a military man

Leaning towards Druid or Ranger, myself.

If he’s a ranger, he would be our first, I believe.

Oh no, Mama Perkins is here. And she’s probably going to have some choice words about her daughter’s choice of career, given how opposed to magic she was in Presti’s youth. Is this going to be a reverse Greenhilt situation?

She wasn’t against magic per se, just a D4+2-year old using magic without adult supervision.

Easiest way to succeed at stealth checks is by being too inconvenient to notice. In this case, for the sake of the author’s time and energy.

Mortem is Latin for ‘death’ which means I wince every time I read ‘re-mortem’. You’re not just reviving these people to kill them again, I hope?

Re-Vita or Re-Vive would be correct usage. 🙂

The Latin prefix “re-” can mean “again,” as you suggest, or it can mean “back” / “in the other direction.” Examples include “react,” “reflect,” “remit.” (This is sort of like the English “gain” that appears in “again” but also in “against” and “gainsay”.) In a few cases, “re-” is pretty close to “un-“. For example, “reveal” means to “unveil”. So it is reasonable for “re-mortem” to be “un-death.”

Beyond elated to see a character I kept voting to participate in a quest, knowing full well they had zero chance of winning, actually showing up for something!!! The enthusiam level is fine given his hisory. I’m sure we’re willing to let Byrons be “bye, gones”.

So apparently Whitey got un-died. (Who did that?) Didn’t Princess have “DM’s gf” as a special feat? Does that make Whitey a DM self-insert?

If he is, he’s a pretty dang humble one. No unbelievable feats, not even a main character (though it looks like he might become a new secondary).

It was reported in the debriefing level. After all the dwarf that started them off got un-died. Twice.
