Hey Rusty, you know all those things we tell you NOT to eat all the time???? They’re now on the menu for the next rude elf.

At a certain point Cube is going to get tired of people being rude to a friend of his.. and though I expect elves are like popcorn.. and not very filling.

It’s true they are rude, but not like actively rude. If she didn’t needed help/directions, she probably wouldn’t mind them ignoring her.

They also probably believe that outsiders want something from them. They ask for directions but are planning to pick your pocket while you look at the map or ask for money to buy lembas for their family.

        Wait…are elves… New Yorkers?

They haven’t flipped her off or cursed her out for even existing. so no, not New Yorkers.

Am I the only one who scans that wall marking as a reference to the Citadel in Mass Effect?

Holy… It is sorta familiar, isn’t it? But I fear that for Roxy, unless things changes tremendously, this office is not going to be her favorite place in the Citadel.

Erfworld’s “High Elves” were somewhat… disconnected with reality. And they tended to get distracted by the pretty colours that only they could see.

She’s at least an elf, even if she was ‘raised wrong’, so they’ll deign to scoff and turn their noses up at her, instead of just completely ignoring whomever Princess could have sent.

    Hmmm,

Every elf apart from Roxy is dressed in green.Even their baseball team were come to think of it

Roxy isn’t dressed in green and is immediately being scorned

Are we going for the “Elves are open racists and cultural supremacists” trope?

Rue Lily demonstrated that they are snobs. Also that they scorn elves who adopt human ways.

Not big enough fans to actually play in it, if Rue Lily’s to be believed.

Say what you will about Rue Lily, but she’s at least willing to *interact*, snide and unpleasant as she is. Seems Roxie is in fact nice by elf standards, and may be the closest thing to a friend, or at least ally, our heroes have in the city.

Rue might also have been having to maintain some “minimum courtesy towards other players” thing int he baseball arc. Don;t know how much those sorts of rules would really apply in a game where murdering the other team is permissible, but it seems mildly humorous, so…

She had to, but only because she was playing. Had she remained in the elven lands showing proper scorn for the contemptible games of — those races, she would not have had to. The very act of playing was interaction.

‘Leaves’ as a pictogram doesn’t seem particularly helpful in a city full of plants. I can understand Roxy’s confusion.

Also, flowerpots and elves sport the same hair/leafdo (flowerpot panel 1 ~ elf panel 3, flowerpots panel 4 ~ elves panel 1 + 2). Are flowerpots elves that haven’t ‘hatched’ yet?

Maybe the pictogram itself is proof of the high-elves rude sense of humor: Since locals do not need any directions, foreigners are graphically told: “LEAVE!”

Red outfit is some major faux pas among the elves and she even topped it off by that punk haircut.

I’m guessing that any kind of divergence from the standard-issue raiment and hairdo is seen as an affront to ‘tradition’.

I’m noticing these elves are paler and have no freckles. Could just be the small pool of examples we’ve seen, could be the artist’s intention to distinguish Roxy from the rest, but is there a chance Roxy is…a half-elf?

In settings where “elitist snob” is the default template, being a half-elf is a fast ticket to being disowned by the usually-purist “pure” elves, who might be even more prejudiced against a half-elf than a *non*-elf.

It could also mean Roxie gets out in the sun and fresh air more than this lot, who are largely content to lurk in their kingdom and snub the rest of the world.

Another possibility occurs to me. The level’s name is “That Old Elvish Spirit”…might be literal. Maybe there is more than meets the eye, here? What if there are a whole lot of glamer or illusions going on?

Good job making us feel as snubbed as Roxy. Very effective visual storytelling!
