All indications are that Maddie can read, at least a little bit. On two different occasions, she didn’t go through an entrance because a sign told her she couldn’t. In both cases, she was alone, and could only get that information by reading the sign.
The first time was in the circus arc – she didn’t follow Boot Cut into the tent until she paid for the 10 tickets the sign asked for. In the Hotel Califormian arc, she halted her investigation because of a “Staff Only” sign, and went around asking the staff to let her in.
Also, the juxtoposition of different art styles, which could easily be less than the sum of its parts in less skillful hands, remains perpetually awesome in this comic.
“Screw this, Cxaxukluth didn’t say this dimension was full of people that can craft uncommon magic items as a bonus action! I’m going to go find some easier prey!”
I have too, Paldins are supposed to be LG but nothing says a Paladin has to follow a ‘good’ deity, neutral works for me, and a Paladin makes a great swashbuckler 🙂

Two observations: A) This wispy art style is really cool. B) Maddie is perpetually awesome.
Wispy art style versus 3D rendering. Who is gonna win?
The fight is so on!
If all THREE of those pebbles are also Beads of Force… ouch.
Get ’em, Flippy Wisp Maddie!
“Typically 1d4+4 beads of force are found together,” hope she rolled a 4, that thing’s definitely got legendary resistances
She believes she rolled a 4
Bold of you to assume Madeline can read the number on the die with her eyes closed.
Can Madeline read at all?

That is a very angry “mmmeeehhhh”!

Helps that the stylistic dissonance is a deliberate choice on the author’s part, and that the art of each style is both original and good quality.

Order Thai
And she doesn’t even have a bird archer helping her.
I’ve never seen a Paladin who’s highest stat is dex before
These are some impressive acrobatics!
I played one once. Back in the days of kits. She was a swashbuckler paladin.
Fun!
