When the thuggish big dude and the kind old man both fell silent after a remark by the naive newcomer… That doesn’t bode well. At all.

(on my way to the fridge) – Frak.
When the Psion asked Madeline to relate her afterlife, he was not expecting a tale of fluffy clouds and cute ponies, or whatever you find in Heavens.
He was expecting some fubar like THAT.

well she said she didn’t go to the Heavens….so I am not entirely sure where she is, but I am guessing we’re gonna have a heck of a shocker next week eh?

My first thought is that the spirits are hesitating to reveal to Maddie that the dimension that’s dissolving around them IS Heaven. The lines about “not a very big place, and no one will miss it” could be a setup for a jibe about how few people actually GO there. But I know Maddie told the others that she didn’t actually see Heaven…and if Heaven really is almost impossibly selective, then the two spirits she’s talking to, while decent enough folks, don’t seem like holiest-of-the-holy types.

My fear is that Heaven was the first to be consumed (maybe the rift originated there as an attack from other planes?) and now everyone who could have gone there plus miscellaneous souls are winding up in this small back up pocket dimension.

Well given that Angelissa was there a couple of days before I’m guessing it’s not the case

Oh, duh, that’s right, the timing doesn’t work at all.

So it really is the question of why the goodiest two-shoes to ever good didn’t go straight to Heaven.

The rifts are multi dimensional thing, right? Perhaps Maddie ended up in an afterlife of a different dimension? One that’s not very big, and doesn’t have heavens.

You say you’re homeless? I don’t understand. Why don’t you just buy a house?

As a USAin, I pronounce it however the person with that name pronounces it. Without context I default to the French o·li·vyé, but that’s because of Laurence Olivier, who might not be as famous amongst the children these days (millennials and zoomers), but Gen X and older should remember him.

Forgotten Realms had an intermediate plane where souls went to, to be collected by agents of the proper divinity. Demons (et all) scoured the plane for souls that were not claimed.

Or possibly Olivier is interdimensional typo-speak for Oliver ? 😉

Hmm… my guess would be that whatever process souls use to access the afterlife has been damaged. The Heavens still exist, but souls can’t get there until the path is opened again. Question is, is that because of the rifts, or is something else wrong and the rifts are just a side-effect of the real problem?
