That’s a tough call for Dorilys to make at the moment, though. For all she knows, Captain Soft Tail and her hydrostaticpunk riding golem ARE the invasion force. (As it turns out, the bad guys are being just as unwise, in a “let’s split up and cover more ground” sense, as the good guys!)
maybe not so unwise on the bad guy’s part. “soft tail” obviously can handle herself (hence her being the “boss” of this crew) and could work pretty well as a diversion.
but really, presti “securing” the basement is gonna be trouble. 2 lava golems, a traitor fungus thing either possesing or pretending to be grawlf, 3 of those circus guys, one named bonebreaker who gave our favorite former undead knight a real fight, another named rib cage whose first appearance was them saying “did someone say blood?” (so powers unknown but probably not good to find out) they should have sent one melee fighter after soft tail, and kept at least 1 melee fighter with presti, cause lets be honest, mages have all that godly power, but they tend to be very squishy.
Yeah, they already know there’s been a breach in the basement and the cavalry (or mounted scout) has gotten this far… that means there will be more in the basement or in the areas connected.
Always seal the breach first, then finish the harrying scout/skirmisher, which you’ve sent the muscle after.
A better division of labor would be Presti and Cube to the dungeon, Dorilys to follow Softtail and deal with her.
I don’t see any clouds of billowing vapor, but those endless decanters plus a bound fire elemental could power a motorcycle nicely, and would put the “steam” back in Steampun…er SteamToolOfTheState.

Hindsight will reveal that this is not the proper division of labor. One person to chase her, others to the cellar.
Probably.
Hindsight may reveal that she’s the big danger and this is right.

They guessed there was a breach in the basement. She might have come from another direction.
This is why hindsight will be needed to judge what the best path was.
Dorilys is making a guess. There is a good chance that it turns out to be a *lucky* guess.
Gonna be a lucky guess.
It’s whether it’s good or bad luck that really matters.
“I’m not punk, I work for the state” is something I’m going to repeat to myself for a while, hahaha
I love it. And for me, it’s a true statement even…
“new ways to use Decanters”
Oooh, I am sensing a disturbance in the Force.
What new trick did the Derro brought with them?
Well, the “motorcycle” quite obviously works with two decanters in the back, so that’s something. But how they get rid of the excess water beats me.
If one could have decanters of endless water, one could just as easily have decanters of endless wind.
Decanter of Endless Water and a Decanter of Endless Vacuum, the flow rate between then would be intense.
Wow… never thought about that – you wouldn’t use an impeller; that would definitely be a turbine application!!
You would need a hella’va transmission though, but the torque would be amazing
(oot: CAPTCHA *sucks* if you are colorblind!!! D: )

I think the keyword is “STEAMpunk”. And since Basement 3 is so hot, you do not see the vapor…
Well, it IS fantasy…
Oh, I see mucat beat me to it, congrats!
They might be using a recanter.

10 gp says the slipper Presti just lost will be relevant later.
I would be more worried about those spell components ending on floor …
Especially given Dorilys’s history with things on the floor.
I wouldn’t put it past her powers to have put them on the floor retroactively for something she’s going to do.
It occurs to me that one of the dictionary definitions of “punk” is “a kind of fungus.”
Closer to Grawlf than to Presti.

Failing YOUR Con save is never funny… someone else failing theirs definitely CAN be!! 😀
… and someone else failing their Agi or Dex save is FREQUENTLY funny!
… but in this case, since it delayed our funny, it is definitely NOT funny.
Seriously though, hope you feel better
