I don’t expect Anti-Madeline to leave anybody in peace – and she isn’t even part of the discussion. Other complications: (1) the succession issues that others have mentioned; (2) Tarta’s father is still missing (supposing that her father is not the Princess); (3) the Belt is still missing; (4) the eavesdroppers are at the door, because they don’t hear screaming from the torture room.

And (5) someone stole all of the “modest retirement” in her vaults.

Regarding point 2, who has guesses on who Tarta’s father is? Given that this is a ‘film noire’ genre change, my money’s on Plaidbeard.

Given that ‘Tarta’ seems to derive from ‘tartan’, as in the pattern on a Scotsman’s kilt… I’d call that a safe bet.

Aw, Princess… I wish they could just leave you in relative peace. :-/
But by now you should know that things just aren’t that easy for those in a position of power and responsibility. You’d need to conclusively fake your death to get completely off the hook.

Also: yikes, the Viscount is a scarily good planner, for him to have Malevolus at exactly the right place at exactly the right time, in spite of how chaotic everything turned at the end of the Games.

The problem with relative peace is that her relative is not interested in peace.

And the (arguably)most unreasonable character of the story gets the most reasonable backstory and character development.
    Well done mate.
    (Also: Awww…?)

The fly in the ointment: Mimic knows what will ruin all.

Why is she referring to an obviously male antagonist as “they”?

You assume he’s the only one. In fact, she’s been targetted by more than one person in this scope of this comic.

Because the gender of the “someone” waiting is irrelevant to the story she’s telling.

It’s terrible having your nest-egg swiped to make somebody’s omelet. But perhaps the yolks on them, eh?

What do you do when you’re broke? Put on a show! Call Jelly-C! Get Roxie! Call the Pixie Chicks! We’re putting the band back together!

Considering that she’s been hiding her identity from her gang, I wonder how accommodating they’ll be if they ever find out who she really is. Since she got to her leadership position by beating the crap out of them, they may not be so loyal after they know the truth. Not that the Viscount isn’t clever and resourceful enough to find her on his own, but they could make it a lot easier for him. Even though he knows that Roxy is standing in for the Princess and he can expose her and have her tossed out as soon as all his agents are in position, I’m sure he won’t want to leave any loose ends.
