Y’know, Stabs, you could make your matches last a lot longer by lighting them one at a time.
One match doesn’t generate much light.
It still makes a big difference if you’re in total darkness. And I’m pretty sure that five matches are not five times as bright as one match.
Now you’ve got me curious. I’m going to have to pick up some matches and indulge my inner pyro one of these days.
But have you tried comparing a million candles to nine hundred thousand candles?
While five matches produce, ideally, five times the amount of lumens, human perception of brightness is highly nuanced and depends on a lot of factors – roughly speaking, it follows something like the square root or logarithm of the intensity, so five matches should be perceived roughly twice as bright as a single match.
