Isn’t Ferrovore trademarked? I’d make an alternate suggestion, but I’m not sure how PG that would be.
(For those who haven’t played it, that’s a reference to a quest in Borderlands 2 where a character wishes to find alternate names for a type of creature. Ferrovore is one suggestion he comes up with, but it is shot down for being trademarked)
She hasn’t had quite as much time to think about it as we have. And she didn’t know that YT was the one who was supposed to be coming to meet her.
Of course she also didn’t question Madeline doing “something bad” to an ally, so.
I’m pretty sure paladins are allowed to attack former allies who betrayed them. Or at least, who betrayed them for evil purposes. I’m not so sure “didn’t want to turn the artifact of doom back over to the villains” counts as evil purposes.
This is the first time I saw panel composition fail in this entire comic (I follow it from the very beginning).
Took me a while scratching my head about what was the body of Madeline exploding out of Y.T. and how were both of them packed together into one being and where were cakes in that combined form.
It is SUPER not obvious this is a sequence of flying, smacking against the wall then falling.
Maybe because motion is reversed.
P.S. To salvage the page, I advice turning Madeline’s form into a transparent “fizzling out” outline of sorts. Minimum of work that would get the point across.
P.P.S. I am not good with English and no good with puns. Weakness multiplier. That’s why I never participate.
Yeah, I agree; the panel is jarring and hard to interpret at first glance. I think it’s because the reader “notices” YT — who is the central figure of the panel — before they notice “Madeline” hitting the wall up above, but it’s key that the actual sequence of events was the other way around. I also had to look at it several times (“Wait…YT and Madeline are SEPARATING here? I thought Maddie wasn’t even in the room!”) before getting what was going on.
The solution I would suggest is simply not drawing the illusionary Madeline form at all in this panel. Draw the motion lines, and lots of commotion and “pain stars” to emphasize the point of impact with the wall, and let the reader surmise for themselves that the impact was what dispelled YT’s illusion.
The motion lines between the ant queen and Madeline, and between Madeline and YT made the sequence instantly clear to me. I don’t know if they were there originally or added later, but they work well to indicate the sequence.
So, not doing things you know you’ll regret later defines a paladin. What defines an anti-paladin, I wonder. Doing things you know you’ll never regret in a million years no matter that you should? Being the height of someone’s boot-top? Maladine?
If Mike does update the page, he should probably amend Anti-Madeline’s description to read “Six inches tall”, as anyone who is new to the comic would have a hard time getting that from her picture, and would be a bit confused whenever she actually shows up again at such size.

Y.T. really knows how to ham it up.
That bug better not waste time, there’s a lot at steak here. Madeline is probably meating up with Rusty even as we speak.
I hope not. Rusty doesn’t eat meat.
(Though I don’t think “vegetarian” is the right word to use…)
Metallovore.
Ferrovore?

Like all rust monsters, he prefers iron but eats all metal.
I’m not sure all rust monsters prefer iron. The name “Patina” suggests someone liked copper…
Milo – don’t you mean bronze?
I approve of your punning.
Nicely sliced, too. Score a posthumous point for the steely knife.
I don’t know – these puns need fleshing out.
I wan’t to say “What’s the haram in treyfing,” but then I worry about the sanity of those with pork will saves.
Hmmm…given her response after the disguise is removed, I don’t think she recognized the missssteakssss Y.T. made after all.
Nope. Perhaps she doesn’t recognize the finer differences between vertebrates.

Hmm — or perhaps she only suspected and now has confirmed.
… or perhaps this is just vocalizing the realization that she had at “oopsss!?”
She just paused to fling YT first. Not her fault the page break got in the way.
She was expecting dry ham?
Kosher ham ? It’s an artifact so maybe…… 😉
Where is the myrmarch’s “claw” in panel 3?
You mean her mandible? Closed, maybe? It is kinda weird it’s not there.
Fixed. Thank you for pointing it out.
Woah, no problem, glad to make an impact.
well mostly fixed, its on backwards now.
And why is Janet smiling?
There’s going to be some sssmacking soon!

Given we all knew that “Maddie” was YT, it seems clear to me.
What? Not a Wet Ham United fan?
Whu’s that?
Pun on ‘West Ham United’ – an English football (soccer) team.

I vote we make the name MALADINE stick for Anti-Madeline.
Make it Maledine so it’s a proper anagram.
I might’ve used Maledine originally, but I can’t remember. It *is* better.
But she’s Femaledine….
You missed an opportunity for an easy Doctor Who easter egg in panel six.
Just sayin’
So “Wibbly-Wobbly” instead of “Wobble Wobble Wobble”?
I think Y.T. should be moved from the enemies section of the cast page by now.
Yeah, I don’t like this ham-fisted approach of the comic personnel panel, where she’s some vile snake in the grass or sumthin’

Who actually starts reading a comic in the middle instead of archive binging from the first page?
I mostly use the cast page to remember who people were when they haven’t appeared for a while and I’ve forgotten about them.
What are the chances the fan bug with the lunch box was a paladin with an artifact.
Fairly high, actually
I can’t really see Madeline pulling that off.
She didn’t have to say anything, that helps.
YT seems more and more human. Here she is, hamming it up.
Wait… Did YT use the artifact on itself?
Specifically, the stone-to-flesh spell, I mean.
She probably carved out a piece of the fountain. It was described as being turned into ham, and that explains why it’s wet.
Can do things you know you’ll regret later, eh? I see you, YT.
Urf. Moist ham. Bleurgh.
