There’s a difference between figuratively stabbing somebody in the back and literally stabbing them in the back while maneuvering in combat.
It’s not like she sneaked up on her (which… many paladins do).
This comic is sometimes funny, sometimes serious and overall quite enjoyable. And there are also the times, such as on the last panel, where it can be UTTERLY TERRIFYING!

I’ll let you know when the nightmares stop.
I can already picture “running for the door.”
Now I’m just hoping that the author can give us a good “I had to find the passage back to the place I was before”
Sally Fintan aka Alchemical Fire died in chapter 2 of Sleepless domain … let’s try just alchemical fire. Or magic fire. “You should fight everything with fire.” —Jaya Ballard
Per 3rd edition rules, formian myrmarchs are immune to poison, petrification and cold, and resistant to fire, electricity and sonic damage. That just leaves acid.
Chitin alone wouldn’t deflect a steel knife, let alone shatter it (though to be fair, Stoneskin shouldn’t do that either).
Formians do have some natural armor, but not that much, considering (a myrmarch only has six points more than a normal, non-supernatural giant ant, with a challenge rating eight levels lower), and don’t have any damage resistance to melee attacks. 102 hit points plus fast healing still means you’re unlikely to be able to kill one with a kitchen knife, but you should still be able to do at least superficial damage unless there’s something more going on.
And finally, we get “They stab it with their steely knives But they just can’t kill the beast (or wound it)”. Wgich means “you can check out any time you like, but you can never leave!” is coming up. Am enjoying this chapter. It;s not often a webcomic has a good soundtrack…

This all happened cause she went for a stab and not a ssstab. YT got the technique wrong
I thought she was a pacifist now anyway.
Y.T. would never be a pacifist. She’d be a pacifissst.
She had no compunctions taking out one vampire. She just doesn’t like hurting innocent people because of what the (other) artifact did.
Also, she realized that antagonizing people for no good reason is just asking for adventurers to come kill you.
Ssssssshoulda gone for a joint, where it’s weak.
I suspect at this time it will be found out to not be the real Maddie. After all, how many Paladins do you know that backstab enemies?
Plus the obvious fact that she repeated exactly what she heard “Oopsss”, demonstrating she DID hear an extra hiss at the end.

How hard would it be to constrict a Myrmarch? If YT shifted back could she grapple?
Grappling someone larger than you tends not to work out well.
Now we know what “Maddie” looks like, fighting with her eyes open. Good reason to keep her eyes closed.
Check the last two panels.
Oopsss instead of Oops.
Ohh sssh… instead of Oh sh…
It’s YT for sure.
Based on the quotes around “Maddie”, I suspect Hatchitaw knew that.
On an unrelated note: Shove the “artifact” into that maw!
I suspect it may be a box of ant powder under that cloth!
you can’t solve all your problems by shoving things in people’s mouths.

I’ll let you know when the nightmares stop.
The funny thing is that the one being terrified is a snake person, which is usually associated with doing the terrifying.
The scariest part of a snake is a head, though, and lamias lack the snake head.
Formians, on the other hand, seem to have perfectly functional ant heads.
That is some dank nightmare fuel, my word. But to be fair it’s what you sould expect to happen when you try to kill an outsider with a cooking utensil
To each their own; I don’t find this expression particularly bothersome.
I’d probably find it scarier if it was a few centimeters from my face.
Steely knives have been applied.
Beast remains unkilled.
Check!
I can already picture “running for the door.”

Relax, we’re programmed to receive.
Will continue to test Resistances.
Requesting permission to employ Alchemical Fire.

Technically, that’s just one steely knife.
Nobody tell Stabs. She would be heartbroken.
Is that an armored gown? Of corset is…
I don’t think it’s the gown. The knife cut right through the dress, leaving an obvious hole, then shattered against the myrmarch’s exoskeleton.
This is presumably some kind of magical protection, such as the Stoneskin spell.
Or, you know, just a hardened carapace. The matriarch is a giant ant, afterall, and probably has some natural armor.

Maybe plan b is the animated turkey about to attack. With create undead you could have an advanced poultrygeist.
It can’t be Maddie – she’s not using a farm implement!
