Level 9: #19
Chapter: Comic, Level 9 β Hotel Califormian
Hi folks! We haven’t had a contest in quite a while! Instead of doing another fan art contest, I thought we’d challenge your puzzle-solving skills with a cryptic crossword! Update: Contest closed! Keep your eye on Rusty & Co. on Twitter for future contest updates! |
Itβs really satisfying to see characters thinking things out like this
Agreed.
YT has slithered right into a whodunnit.
Fortunately she seems to have figured out the howdunit, which is an important first step.
Pretty sure the whodunnit is a foregone conclusion… the only question left is the whydunnit.
There’s still the howtostopdunningit.
Why is Y.T. still lisssping in her thoughts?
Wow, did the alt text come after your comment, or before?
Argh. Must have forgotten to check that.
something’s fishy….IT’S A TRAP !!!….door
Ah yes, the classic trap door…on the ceiling…that you fall…up into…?
Eh, I’m sure it’ll make sense soon.
Bungee Bugmen.
I was going for the gravity spells, but I like your idea better.
Spiders and ants are traditional enemies β¦
Fishy was at the circus, and therefore in the floor.
This is in the roof and may be, more probably, birdy.
I did the crossword. Almost. Still trying to figure out one word. FYI, I think one of the clues is spelled wrong, though that might have been intentional to make it less easy. Otherwise, very fun and challenging, yet still doable! Great job!
…aaaaaaand I just got the last one, though I had to look up a list of D&D spells to figure it out. Great job!
I’m about halfway through it… a fun puzzle.
Okay, I was a little disappointed at first that it was her instead of either of my choices, but this has me intrigued. At the very least, she’s not completely careless.
The way I see her, she is only careless about others. And it’s more about being easy-going, live and let die, all that stuff.
So when an eldrich abomination starts to break through or roommates disappear from her room, she is definitively motivated to act. She may or may not care about the others, but something inamical playing games around her? Cannot have that.
Who were your choices?
My choices for Rusty’s allies were Dorilys (the green girl who can manipulate luck) and Presti (the dark-skinned illusionist wizard). I didn’t mind Madeline being one of the allies, but wasn’t a huge fan of the lamia.
I do like Yuan-Tiffany, but I would have preferred her on Mimic’s team rather than Rusty’s. I’m still more upset about that no longer being possible than about her appearance here per se.
I also voted for Prestige on Rusty’s team, so good taste on that one π (Madeline was my other pick, so I can’t complain too much.)
My votes for Mimic’s team are going to be Robespierre and Stabs since it involves going into the criminal underground to find the Genre-Changing Belt.
I’ll vote for Stabs (for the underground) and Roxy (for the genre).
Aww, I want Robespierre for Cube’s team.
Haven’t figured out who my second pick for Mimic’s team is, though, now that my original choice is unavailable.
Bards being good at storytelling is more of an Order of the Stick thing than a Rusty and Co. thing. Roxy mostly just sings silly stuff.
I guess everyone is choosing Stabs though. I guess, a few people have said they don’t want her there, but I seriously doubt their vote is going to matter.
And *this* is why Y.T. makes the best possible counterpart to Madeline.
(One tiny flaw in her logic though… she rules out a silence spell because she could still hear the hot tub, but if it were cast just outside the doorway it would have blocked the noise from the atrium without catching the hot tub in its area of effect.)
She makes a good Sssherlock Holmesss.
Baby Rusty?
Thank you for the cryptic crosswords. I’ve been looking for slightly more challenging daily mind puzzles than the daily crossword and Sudoku in my news subscription. Now I have a new puzzle type to search for.
Shouldn’t the c in “Silence” be extended?
Maybe Y.T. is reading her own thought bubbles as she thinks them. She doesn’t lisp the ‘c’ in ssssilence because it doesn’t LOOK like an s.
Neither do the c in “cccertain” or “noticccing”, but those are both extended.
Fixed. Thank you.
On the same note: “Noisesss” (but later “noissse”) β¦
Snakes don’t buzz, though. That’s mosquitos.
I love all of Tiffany’s thinking faces.
Smart snek is smart.
