I’m not sure what concerns me more, the smiling or the rhyming. If this is anything like the Hell of DC Comics, these are quite potent men of wealth and taste indeed.
Holy cow! Edge of the seat ending! Who are these demons? Where is the Princess and will it take the group to rescue her. What has Maddie remembered? WHO is the Prodigal Daughter? Stay tuned, next Cube time, next Cube station.
I don’t think it’s either Madeline or Roxy. Prodigal means to spend lavishly or wastefully. The crux of the Prodigal Son story was that the titular character was seeking forgiveness for blowing his family’s life savings. Neither Maddy or Roxy fit that description, but I can’t think who would.
Language evolves. Of “prodigal son/daughter”, dictionaries tell us: “a son/daughter who leaves his or her parents to do things that they do not approve of but then feels sorry and returns home —often used figuratively”. Rather detached from the meaning of “prodigal”, as I see it used, the crux seems to be leaving and (actually or hypothetically) later returning.
But figurative or not, I can’t recall anyone who fits. Who left her (real or figurative) parents?
This is a case of Kessel Run in 12 Parsecs, isn’t it?
Maybe he meant ‘probable daughter’. Or ‘magical daughter’. Or ‘peripatetic daughter’, which describes more of an itinerant nature.
But it doesn’t scan like “Prodigious …prodigal … portal”.
My guess it’s Madeline who was ‘adopted’ or is somehow related to these Hellspawn and can’t be happy about it. She found out about it in the afterlife and her buzz has been totally killed.
I’ll be surprised if it’s not Princess. Think about it… she’s a princess, which means the king and/or queen are still alive. She’s also got a rebellious streak — which might explain why we haven’t seen Mom & Dad; if she left home to get away from them, that would definitely qualify her as “prodigal”.
One more possibility for the prodigal daughter might be Temper Feujette, the half-demon from the inktober spinoffs. (under the loot tab at the top of the page.) She doesn’t have a lot of background detail, but seems to normally not be engauged in evil looking stuff, despite being an alchemict.
Either way, I suspect the prodigal daughter is someone who has gone against the evil ways of her “parents”.
Given Maddie’s comments in her therapy session about “a group”, she almost definitely remembered this gaggle of fiends here, which would also point her to being the “prodigal daughter” in question. (I’d also note that none of these guys have visible eyes, while our favorite paladin favors fighting with hers closed. Intentional?)
I’m kind of concerned about Y.T., though, considering she was in possession of the Python last we saw it. Maybe she’ll turn up again next level?
So Grawlf’s run in with the Fun Guys has left him with a nasty case of evil-mind-controlling-fungus-infestation?
Bad news for him but if it means we’ll see more of him in future plots, I welcome it.
And the Calamitous “clones” were create the same way anti-Madeline was? Cool.
It’s too hot to drink right now, so it’s sitting on the coffee table in front of me, waiting ominously…
Once it’s cooled down from ‘McDonald’s Second-Degree-Burn Blistering Heat’, I hope that Mike will provide us with some delicious “Cookies of Story” to go along with it. 😀
The grins and the rhyming remind of the not-Dr. Seuss demons from Mysterius the Unfathomable. Good stuff.
I think I’m most worried about high-ranking demons getting their hands on the Python. That, and… who was it who got a new evil doppelganger made from them?
Unlikely to be the same, but could well share some inspiration. If I were to try and write the further comic based only on public info, I’d probably cross-reference those as well as the Four Lords of Alagadda in the SCP Foundation.
I suspect that’s where all the Calamitus clones came from. Since he was already evil, it made life-sized duplicates (unlike Madeline’s itty-bitty one). But, as the Viscount says, they weren’t smarter duplicates.

Well this sounds suboptimal.
There’s suboptimal, and then there’s multiclassing Sorceror/Cleric/Ranger/Evocation Wizard/Elementalist/Druid

Grinner’s “friends in low places,” anybody?
A great and ominous way to end the level- looking forward to the next one!

You sure it ain’t Princess Party Pants?

Princess is the most likely fit based on what we know, but Anti-Madeline *might* fit the bill here as well.
“But figurative or not, I can’t recall anyone who fits. Who left her (real or figurative) parents?”
… oh dang. Anti-Madeline is who.

Devils, I think, rather than Demons, Pit Fiends to be more precise.

Also cool: fiends in fancy hats!
You best not be hurtin’ my Maddie or so help me, God…
The Python was in “Fangs for Nothing”
How’s everyone else feel about this big, steaming cup of “That’s Not Good At All”? 0_0;

Mimic isn’t getting past level 10 is he

I think maybe Calamitus? There were lots of Calamiti, they were all the same size, and they all seemed as dumb as the original.
Oh yeah, that would make sense.
Sounds to me like the demons gave the python to him first; he’s is just giving it back now.
So absolutely nobody notices Growlf has a mass of big, purple mushrooms growing out of his arm stump? You’d think they’d want to get that looked at.
ok, am I alone when I first saw those four devils and thought of the chaos gods from Warhammer and Warhammer 40k?
Unlikely to be the same, but could well share some inspiration. If I were to try and write the further comic based only on public info, I’d probably cross-reference those as well as the Four Lords of Alagadda in the SCP Foundation.
I’m a bit confused where the python was used in this storyline.
It’s been disguised as the Viscount’s cane and he’s been popping in and out of the story, so we can’t be sure of when he used it.
