But why? What could the Viscount (he made Maladine swap the orb) gain by unleashing an evil god? BTW, the heroes are at level 8. The CR of a god is way too high (about 20+). Without a mighty artefact the have no….. Waitaminit! There IS a mighty artefact – the genuine 8ball! Aaaaand there has to be a “Called Shot Heard Around the World” by Petey. Now put one and one together!
My prediction: The “Evil ´neath the stade”, be it a recurring evil god or something else, is going to be defeated by a homerun-shot from Petey with Dereks crystal ball. Only Question: Who´s gonna pitch it? And how does he-she-it get it in the first place?
[Isenoxyd]:
My guess is, the Viscount has long-since left the stadium, & that his plan is for the ensuing carnage to be SO widespread that no-one will connect the disaster to “Attempted Regicide”. We all know that the Princess is FAR too badass to run from an opponent, even if it’s a world-devouring Eldritch God. Therefore (his logic goes), the Princess dies, along with TONS of “Collateral Damage” (which aids his plausible deny-ability), along with everyone who aided the Viscount, so there’s no loose-ends left behind, that might be traced back to him.
As for your prediction, I LIKE this scenario!
My ‘take’ on this is, there’ll be too much turbulence (caused by “Meh-Thulhu’s” arrival) to throw a hit-able pitch, unless you have exceptional strength. I picture the Princess making “The Pitch”, & Petey doing a classic homage to Babe_Ruth, before he sends it flying:
“A Late-Breaking Alternative”:
If the situation is TOO DIRE, then the pitch might need to be made by Dorilys (instead of by the Princess), to “improve the odds” of surviving this apocalypse.
Well there is a mention of the “Called shot” right at the beginning of Roxy´s tale. (http://rustyandco.com/comic/level-8-title/). Roxy is going to recount the current events sometimes in the future. BUT the crystal ball´s power is to change possible outcomes of said future, so it may not be relevant anymore…
So you know, there’s not anything to indicate that the party members are actually level 8- they’ve fought plenty of foes that would be worthy foes for fairly high level pre-Epic players, and so I’d imagine they are all level 10-14 or something.
Surely I don´t know anything (and that´s part of the fun, innit), but it says “Level 8” for this story arc (http://rustyandco.com/archives/). And if you want to take the trouble of counting the “Level-up-indicating-Dings”s (for exemple: http://rustyandco.com/comic/level3/level-3-21/) you won´t find 10 to 14. (Not that it would matter anyway, even at Level 14 an encounter with a god might be sliiiiiiightly unbalanced…)
I’m sure it’s been said before, but:
[rustyandco.com/comic/level-8-100] … based on Panel_5, I vote that this unleashed “evil” will be:
[rustyandco.com/comic/level-6-56] … “Meh-Thulhu”, as seen in Panel_4.
Does anybody wonder, where the fake crystal-ball came from? http://rustyandco.com/comic/level-8-14/
I guess, Mr “Evil 4 gold-Calamitus” has the “Make wondrous items-feat”…
I missed it the first time, but I think that’s not an 8 on the ball. This is dependand on the font, but usually the 8 has 2 t-junctions close together. It’s the infinity symbol where the line crosses itself.

Words from a chest indeed.
EEEEEEEE-villllllll
For reference:
“Words from a chest:
A champion decreed.
An evil ‘neath the stade
A Doogan shall free.”
Anti-M greatly underestimated his ability to deduce things.
To be fair, he’s deducing it because of the prophecy and not because she dropped any particular hint.
She doesn’t know what other knowledge he has. And giving herself away is a big hint.
A big hint that’s totally unrelated to what he figured out!
*clicks stopwatch* Yeap panel wise that didn’t take long.
This is why you don’t ‘scratch’ the 8-Ball. 😉
Damn you Strider
Here’s the prophecy, for those who need a refresher: http://rustyandco.com/comic/level-8-156/
Dang it, I should have looked at the comments first. I manually searched for it.
Goodness, gracious eight-balls o’ fire!
Well, they sure have the flailing down.
That’s no 8-ball, it’s a (ERROR: MISSING NO.)-ball!
Uh oh, it’s emitting Kirby Krackle.
I knew that replaced 8 ball was going to be trouble. Looks like Rusty and the gang are going to have to fight a god soon.

Of course! It MUST be Dorilys rube-goldberging something totally unrelated, resulting in Maladine coughing the real thing to Petey! How can it NOT?!
Why does there have to be a called shot heard round the world by Petey? Have I forgotten something?
Well, it´s been a while…(September 9, 2015! Can you believe it?)
http://rustyandco.com/comic/level-8-title/
*whistle* It’s been four years since this level started!?

Drat. I had the right chest, but not the right peon.
Meh-Thulhu is a great name for it.
[IRS Agent]:
I can’t take credit for it — “Will” named it, in his last comment, on the bottom of Pg.[level-8-100]
“Oh, that macguffin you just grabbed and have been tinkering with? Yeah, it’s humming now.”
words to warm a GM’s heart and to make a team of PCs scatter like a handful of dropped BBs.
[Weatherheight]:
Yeah, the humming is great & all that …
… but it’s the glowing fissures, cracking open across the surface, that REALLY ‘sell’ it!
😉
🙂
Just discovered this gem a few weeks ago and now I am all caught up… Need MOAR!
Welcome to the party.
Does anybody wonder, where the fake crystal-ball came from?

I think that’s the point- it looks like an enchanted Magic 8 Ball, but in reality its something for more powerful.
