Level 8: #14
Hey guys! If you haven’t been keeping up on the new Rusty & Co. Patreon, this strip is the final strip for the current Patreon cycle. The deadline to join up for this batch of rewards is Midnight, EST… help spread the word! Thanks for reading!
Final panel, in his shadow. What’s that arrow looking on his shoulder?
I would assume that is the devil on one’s shoulder.
Oh! I get it.
That’s not the shadow of anybody we know. At least, nobody who’s shown in this comic. Someone with an arrow on their shoulder.
I would actually assume that to be the pointed tip of a Devil’s Tail.
He doesn’t need a devil on his shoulder if he IS a devil…
Think you called it.
Would explain how he was able to kill the assassin, telekinesed his head right off him.
So, you are guys are going to laugh, but it’s just the shadow of the little smokestack behind the Viscount adding up to some pretty cool imagery.
How does that tiny smokestack even get to be connected to anything?
Green Fairy has had too much Absinthe
I understood that reference.
Hey, Viscount, you get that that troll is just gonna get back up, right? He’s a troll. Is what they do.
Maybe it was just a warning beheading.
Hey, as long as you keep ‘fire’ and ‘acid’ and ‘a continuous line of woodchippers feeding into one another’ out of it, that’s all dismemberments are to trolls. Just polite warning shots.
Troll: “You inconsiderate prick, do you have any idea how much that stings?”
“Yes, I do. Now leave my friend alone before I have to get out the acid.”
Huh? What just happened. Who/wat ganked greenie’s head off?
ok, and who else started singing “Dirty deeds, done dirt cheap”?
Oh Calamitus! Playing the pawn so you can backstab the backstabber ! What delicious plan have you up your gruel stained sleeve?
Indeed! A rousing cheer for our favorite simi-competent villain! Hip hip Horrayooffrost!
This works, the somatic component for ray of frost is usually a hands forward kind of thing so turning a cheer into that is child’s play.
Well, that’s interesting. I can’t blame in for not wanting to try and directly assassinate the princess. I mean, she’s tough as nails! She was friggin strong the last time we saw her, and she’s probably leveled up oodles since then. I don’t even want to imagine what she’s like now. Is that green fellow a troll? He’s very short, if he is indeed one. Maybe some sort of half-troll? Well, if he is a troll, you know taking his head off wouldn’t kill him right? If I can remember my D&D rules right, trolls can easily regret things like their heads. I think they can even regrow from both body parts, so we’ll probably have two trolls by the nights end. Very curious about our aristocrat. A spellcaster maybe? Or perhaps he has some very powerful magical equipment. Or maybe very powerful guards watching from the shadows? I’m really very curious.
Eugh, painful number of auto correct mistakes there. Well, I meant regrow, not regret, on the eighth line. The others should be pretty obvious.
I think the count paid Calamitus 4 gold to take care of the thief following him. In panel 4 the count is just passing some bags against the wall. In panel 5 the thief is attacked just as he passes the bags. In panel 6 we see Caamitus sitting just past some bags leaning against the wall.
My first thought is that the Viscount is a Tiefling and hiding it well enough, with player levels in something that allows for infernal familiars. That certainly looks like he’s got a little devil curled up on his shoulders in that silhouette (tail visible on the left side and horns just barely visible on the right).
The devil/imp shadow is there 3 or 4 times in various strips, looking back. Didn’t notice it until this strip. Intriguing 🙂
you are right. well spotted
I found it here:

and here:

and possibly hinted at here:

Before this strip.
The Viscount himself shows up first as a shadow before being visible in this strip:

My guess is that this will be an familiar that can be invisible
Or it could be possessing him…meat puppets FTW!
I think the Viscount shaves regularly in order to avoid being called out as evil.
I am staggered by how well that last panel was planned.
