Perhaps he just slapped the skill points in umd and bravo it worked! Who am I kidding? Someone suffered painfully to teach him that and they deserve a moment of silence but no more!
But we saw it actively throw Presti right where they wanted her (that large X where the big confrontation happened). Plus, when Slobber tried to teleport them to the ringmasters office/tent & it didn’t work right. Now, maybe they’ve moved far enough away from the affected area, or it got dispelled after all the commotion/exploding, but it was certainly not a bluff from the multiple witnessed accounts of it working.
Plus, it wasn’t a direct “it’ll put you in the volcano” but a “you’ll get redirected somewhere, and that’s a big volcano close to your potential destination” warning. Hell, maybe it did work, and that’s why they ported above the bar, thus the falling (because it’s rare you want to teleport 30 ft above your destination while injured)
But those examples happened before Grinner made his threat, and thirty feet is not all that dangerous for these adventurers. So long as Grinner believed that Presti wasn’t going to take the risk, he wouldn’t need another redirect.
I reckon Maddie’s gonna have a chat with some of her deity pals while up in the heavens, thus fulfilling Zar’s last piece of advice. Then, once she comes back and shares the info, the team will be off to find Grinner’s “friends in low places”.
Reminds me of an A-team episode where they had a helicopter crash at the end. Everyone was injured escept for BA, ’cause he’d be drugged to get into the aircraft, of course, and was thus completely relaxed when it happened.

Sailor Pug saves the day.
Slobber is already proving himself useful!
…in his way.
And demonstrating the need for care with orders in a fairly harmless way.
Teleport-With-Some-Error.
Or “Dimension Doh!”
XD Best spell-name I’ve ever heard.
Anyone else remember the “magic for everyone” spells from Dragon magazine?
Bigby’s Insulting Finger was my favorite.
Dimension D’oh! Sounds like a wild magic spell to me.
I like Burlew’s take on it — Bixby’s Expressive Single Digit.
Does explain how he could deliver the message.
And he did have it in hand back in comic 7-11.
Can we get a moment of silence for whoever had to teach him Use Magic Device?
They were either a saint or lost their sanity shortly before he got it right. Probably both.

Fluffy, Pointy, Puggy, Shorty, Boxy, Squishy, and *sigh* dead thingy. What a pack.
Does that mean Slobber is Snow White?
Slobber is Puggy.
This means the vulcano redirect was a bluff.

I still think Maddie’s bit of prophecy was a warning about Boot Cut. “you learn little from victory, but much from de feet,” as it were.
Ironically, Maddie’s corpse probably got the softest landing…

Right.
Brass, I’ve spent the entire evening archive binging this comic.
It is exactly as good as I remember, and maybe a little better.
Keep it up, man. You’ve got the touch.
Good dog.
