He forgot the rust monster is free and that his weapon is made of metal, right? Also the magnet? IS METAL! And he is about to kill the only hostage he has left.
Being a rust monster does not grant all-around immunity to getting stabbed with sharpened steel. Rusty has to touch the offending item with his antennae to rust things, which Grinner could avoid, especially seeing as he could just step on the bug.
A metal weapon that deals damage to a rust monster corrodes immediately. They aren’t immune to being stabbed, but you’d better carry spares if you want to do it more than once.
Isn’t poking a mimic with your best/only weapon is rookie adventurer mistake. Mimic may have forgotten about/unable to use his adhesive last time but he certainly will remember it this time. Let’s also remember that as a shape changer mimic doesn’t have to keep his vital organs in the same places.
Grinner slices Mimic a deep wound down the center. Grinner turns to gloat… Mimic reminds him, “I’m a Shapeshifter”, cuts rope, Cube drops into the fray.
Not only can it be seen in panel 7 too, mimic has moved even closer to the rope. It’s now right behind him. Close enough that if he were to say… dodge grinner could be the one to cut it.
I don’t think he’s even going to dodge. The best way to get Grinner to cut the rope, is for Mimic to let him cut through Mimic, too… and we already know that Mimic can survive being impaled on spikes.
I love how he’s saying “Anything you can do I can do better” to the one character in the party whose entire schtick is something you can’t replicate with items.
Unless there’s a magic item that lets you disguise yourself as unassuming furniture, in which case I want one.
For those afraid of mimic getting stabbed, I’d like to remind you of this little moment: http://rustyandco.com/comic/rusty15/
I don’t expect much of mimic on the ways of fighting, but he’s a thinker. Just because they don’t often let him do his plans doesn’t mean they wouldn’t work (even if they mostly begin with disguising themselves as an unassuming piece of furniture).
Well, the obvious follow-up is that, yes, there is something that Mimic can do that Grinner can’t do better, at least not without a very expensive magic item and even then he has to pull it out and use it, whereas Mimic has it as a natural ability (with experience levels in it, probably 😛 ).
Shapeshifting.
That, and he can make some pretty nasty pseudopod fists that can knock Grinner for a loop.
Or he could use his adhesive ability and turn into a shapeshifting tar baby.
Mimic’s placed himself right in front of the rope holding Cube. Grinner, you need to pay better attention to your surroundings if you want to make it out of this with all your flesh.
Yeah, that makes sense. “I’ve just killed one of you, so now you only outnumber me 5-to-1 instead of 6! And I’ve just pissed you off! Of course you should surrender!”

Talking about cliffhangers…
OTOH, this is the guy who fell on some spikes and net effect was to have a little trouble getting off.
“The suspense is terrible… I hope it lasts.”
He’s cutting the drama, it’s that thick.
Yeah, Mimic turned into an unasuming longsword.
“Famous last words” #147, #224, #246, #425 and #517 in a single phrase. It has to be a record or something.
Where is the list you’re quoting?
Come on Mimic; change into a spike wall or something!
I was thinking a sword sheath…
I was thinking on a +12 Keen Vorpal Chainsaw of Gnoll Bane

Rusty can still rust the magnet, since is made of magnetized meta.
I’m thinking…
Maddie?
She’s the only one on the field who slices, and we only have Grinner’s word that she’s dead.
Notice that the sound effect is orange.
Maddie is using a trident, and those can’t slice. So, cube?
Yeah, I have realized that we don’t yet know where cube was being held up, and he is quite proficient with a sword. So…… Slice.
Last I remember seeing Cube, he was held up with a tarp that was suspended from ropes. So SLICEing the ropes might free him.
Wow, a LOT of people got there before I did.
Yeah I just read this one. I would bet it’s cube too. Go Ninja Cube!
Anything you can do he can do better, he can do anything better than you…
Grinner is such a great villain. love it.
Thanks, now it’s going to be running through my head all day.

Panel 4 is amazing. One of the best villain mugshots in webcomicdom.
Hmmm! *flip flip flip*
Let’s see….yep! “There’s nothing you can do I can’t do better.” Famous last words #256. This next page should be interesting.
Which book is that? I want to read that
So if you stab a mimic does gold pour out?
*Note: The Cute One(TM) doesn’t care that this is over three years old…*
No, but if you’re lucky, you could get some rum!

Let the slice be through the ropes supporting the synthetic fabric trapping cube, pretty please???
But I think not, what can mimic do better than grinner that involves “slice”???
Scythe trap?

Yup. Poking these critters is asking for it.
Unless he got some alcohol right on him, it’s “Upgrade your knife to overweight mace for free” deal.
Grinner slices Mimic a deep wound down the center. Grinner turns to gloat… Mimic reminds him, “I’m a Shapeshifter”, cuts rope, Cube drops into the fray.
Slice! There we go, there’s Madie.
He’s really chewing the carpet.
Sliced the rope holding Cube, who then falls on top of him, perhaps? 🙂
Considering that we can see the rope in panel 5, there’s good odds the people talking about the rope getting cut are correct.
rope can also be seen behind Mimic in panel 7 as well
Not only can it be seen in panel 7 too, mimic has moved even closer to the rope. It’s now right behind him. Close enough that if he were to say… dodge grinner could be the one to cut it.
Or if Mimic were to have turned himself into a rope, Grinner might cut the wrong one.
I don’t think he’s even going to dodge. The best way to get Grinner to cut the rope, is for Mimic to let him cut through Mimic, too… and we already know that Mimic can survive being impaled on spikes.
I missed the rope in both panels, well spotted.

there is.
A ring. of metamorphosis, in anything, including furniture.
It is a really expensive ring.
most power are copied by spell and all spell can be used to make enchanted objects
Did he just stab a shapeshifting aberration? Because I’m pretty sure there are a few reasons why you don’t do that.

“There’s nothing you can do I cannot do it better”
“We can WEAR SHOES. You cannot
OK, I think I got this: The only character we’ve seen who goes “SLICE” is Boot Cut (7-63).
And last we heard of her… they were still waiting for her to land (7-70). Which means she has to come back. It’s the Brick Joke.
In fact it’s almost exactly the classic Brick Joke setup, except with Boot Cut instead of a brick.
well I think we all know what’s happened. cube got lose and saved the day at the last second. it’s what he does

It would be worth of GOLD if mimic transform himself in the most humble creature of the nature.
Tyranosaurus Rex
Oooooh… Mimic, you clever devil!
Mimic’s placed himself right in front of the rope holding Cube. Grinner, you need to pay better attention to your surroundings if you want to make it out of this with all your flesh.
A bit late, but was anyone else reminded of Gideon’s rant at the end of Scott Pilgrim?
I just noticed what is right behind Mimic.
This is gonna be good…
So you are saying that he kicked Mimic under Cube. So when he raised his sword, the slice is the tent holding Cube?
Yeah, that makes sense. “I’ve just killed one of you, so now you only outnumber me 5-to-1 instead of 6! And I’ve just pissed you off! Of course you should surrender!”
