assuming they are the same level, maddie is stronger than princess:
Palladin are bba 1, D10 HD, healing power, weapon proficiency, spell
also int as dump stat -> other are higher
monk, even houseruled ones are D8 HD, bba 3/4, no dump stat (she has some charisma and int, need her dex, str, cons and wis) The normal strengh of monk are against spell and spellcaster.
OTOH they will never fight each other
and probably wont meet each other
I have to give Grinner credit, I didn’t think he would have lasted this long against a mad Maddie. Now the question is did Maddie or Stabs just nail him? Now we have to wait a week to find out.
To the esteemed creator of this comic: So what would it take for this comic to go bi-weekly or even daily?
It’d require a lot of money and more people I’d guess, I mean look at the dang art quality in this, bi-weekly would be the closest you could get, and that’d probably still be hell on them.
Ooooooo! Another Let’s-speculate-wildly-about-why-Maddie-closes-her-eyes-in-a-fight thread!
Those are always fun.
The only idea that definitely been refuted is that she’s using Detect Evil, because she’s fought neutral critters.
Personally, I lean to the idea that she has such Blind Fighting skills that she’s better with her eyes closed. Or she just doesn’t like to see blood. Take your pick.
I would definitely believe that she’s built on Book of Exalted Deeds stuff. Which the GM houseruled to be more powerful. (Because what’s the point of giving the Forces of Good a bunch of super-special exclusive feats, spells and such, if those things are going to be balanced with the tools available to all characters?)
I’m deeply amused that Grinner’s on about convection and all the other reasons Maddie shouldn’t have survived her lava river run, and Maddie just. Don’t. Care.
In fact, with proper convection and other more important phenomena, Griner wouldnt survive long this near to lava, and should be asphixiating, burning, paralising…
He isnt, so assuming Maddie ‘should’ not have survived is hypocritical
You’re right, it seems unlikely that a incredibly injured Maddie could prevail over a full-health Grinner, with a damaged weapon (the edge has to be taken off that trident) and several uses of Lay on Hands behind her. Not to mention he might have some kind of undead or construct benefits (possible intelligent undead or golem)
Thanks for the smile. I needed it after hearing the news about Terry Pratchett. World gets darker and sadder, but luckily there are Rusty’s to carry the light forward.
Looking at the SRD, Resist Energy is indeed on the Paladin spell list–although the earliest they can cast it is 8th level, and the 10 points of fire resistance would help against but not obliviate the 20d6/round damage of a lava swim.
Although it might mostly negate the lesser damage of running along the surface…
Spoken like a true Munchkin. “Characters without fire resistance take X damage” is obviously not meant to imply that a character with fire resistance 1 takes no damage; he would take X-1. That’s obvious to everyone who isn’t trying to lawyer the rules, by pretending that they aren’t written in normal English which is meant to be interpreted sensibly.
While I would be inclined to take it that way, the rules on lava are really poorly written. “An immunity or resistance to fire serves as an immunity to lava or magma.” Not “as an immunity or resistance to lava, but just an immunity. A straight reading of the rules does actually say that any fire resistance makes you fully immune, and you have to twist it to make it mean the sensible thing.
Have you ever considered going to bi-weekly instead of weekly? Much less stress on you and us impatient little hoodlums couldn’t b…complain that you were late :). Seriously though. Enough non-comic stuff is going on that the comic is an issue, maybe just cutting back on the schedule for awhile would be a good idea.
You may want to consider using the synonym fortnightly (once every two weeks) to avoid the confusion of bi-weekly meaning twice a week (bisecting the week in twain) or every other week. semi-weekly is less ambiguous for twice per week, if you ever intend that usage in the future. =)
Heh, even back in my big (three syllables or bust) word days (took me forever to get over that), I wouldn’t have used fortnightly. Though I still use words that cause my husband to look at me blankly, I try and keep to ones that are in the common vernacular and don’t send people off googling to see if I just insulted them :).
seriously get whatever is happening in real life taken care of because we enjoy your web comic and a delay is better than a rush job …besides as miracle max always says …you rush a miracle man you get rotten miracles 😉

Worth the extra wait.
Not what? C’mon man, you can’t just leave us hanging like that!
“Done.”
Grinning.
Well, he isn’t.
oh i think he is
I suspect that he’ll soon be VERY well-done indeed…
…if not downright par-broiled.
Yes, yes you are.
At this point, Maddie could probably take on Princess. I love this little ditzy paladin! But something tells me things aren’t finished yet.

You seem to forget that Princess is in an incredibly overpowered PrC called “DM’s Girlfriend”….
Given that it didn’t work on the Pug, maybe they broke up?
That was the elf bard in disguise, not Princess herself.
Finally, I hate that guy. Dude needs to be put down.
Pun intended.
…or at least “fixed”. It would make him calmer.
See, you’d think that, but I have had multiple pets who would very, very, very strongly refute it.
Him being fixed after the *last* time this happened is the sole reason why we’re dealing with him now.
Yup. Tine to die already.

I thought bi-weekly was once every two weeks, not twice a week.
Scrounge Bi-weekly can be used either way & often is.
I agree that with this art level it’s unlikly we could get a new one every day, but we can hope.
Yes, what makes Bi-weekly so popular is it can go both ways….
Uh, no – “bi-weekly” means once every two weeks; “semi-weekly” means twice a week.
It would be a one-panel fight if she had left her eyes open.
She does not want to lose her goodness.
Vows of Purity, Chastity and Fighting Blindly? In First Edition AD&D, it was the Wu Jen that had to take random vows. =)

Are we sure Maddie took a vow of Chastity? She WAS awfully fond of her hoe…
Someone should ask Derek the Cleric.
Chastity doesn’t automatically mean celibacy.
Eh, I think she’s just worried about gooey entrail stuff getting in her eyes.
Always kinda figured her closing her eyes was her relying on her faith and such, letting her deity guide her, y’know?
Lazy, cocky, dead.
You’d think he’d have learned after the *first* time this happened…
Grinner is many things. “Good at recognizing patterns” is not one of them, apparently.
Wow, Madeline’s got a deflecting palm!
I think she is taking out her annoyance on him for sundering her shovel.
It was a vorpal halberd. 🙂
Maddie knew as the gnome told her it was magical. 🙂 🙂
Maddie and Mimic discussing her shovel in the begging of level 6 is one (among quite a few) of my favorites.
I’m deeply amused that Grinner’s on about convection and all the other reasons Maddie shouldn’t have survived her lava river run, and Maddie just. Don’t. Care.

Has Grinner been reading TV Tropes?
http://tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pmwiki.php/Main/ConvectionSchmonvection
Or the comments section.
That’s what happens when you bring a sword to a fork-fight.
+fav
Correction: That’s what happens when you bring a *knife* to a fork-fight. 😀
<3
I wonder how many of her lay on hands and such she had to use to survive the lava? She’s currently kicking butt, but she could be in a bad spot too.
You’re right, it seems unlikely that a incredibly injured Maddie could prevail over a full-health Grinner, with a damaged weapon (the edge has to be taken off that trident) and several uses of Lay on Hands behind her. Uhm like 0 with proper Fire Resistance?
Grinner’s codpiece is making the same face as Maddie. Just saying.
So, Grinner is an obsessive fan-boy?
Oh god, I can’t un-see it….
Actually, you are.
Don’t bother with the lines, Grinner, you didn’t take Dashing Swordsman.
Shame though, he is very charismatic.
Thanks for the smile. I needed it after hearing the news about Terry Pratchett. World gets darker and sadder, but luckily there are Rusty’s to carry the light forward.
I am a bit sad that she isn’t using a hoe anymore
I don’t know about D&D, but in Pathfinder Energy Resistance is on the Paladin spell list and works against immersion in lava.
Looking at the SRD, Resist Energy is indeed on the Paladin spell list–although the earliest they can cast it is 8th level, and the 10 points of fire resistance would help against but not obliviate the 20d6/round damage of a lava swim.

Look up SRD Environment, Lava. RAW even 1 point of fire resistance makes you immune to lava.
Spoken like a true Munchkin. “Characters without fire resistance take X damage” is obviously not meant to imply that a character with fire resistance 1 takes no damage; he would take X-1. I don’t think Maddie cares about being polite right now

Having just read the earlier post…biweekly as in once every two weeks instead of twice a week *sigh*.
You may want to consider using the synonym fortnightly (once every two weeks) to avoid the confusion of bi-weekly meaning twice a week (bisecting the week in twain) or every other week. semi-weekly is less ambiguous for twice per week, if you ever intend that usage in the future. =)

I’m guessing you’re American, then; in other english speaking countries, fortnight is a common word most people would be expected to know.
