Casbaugh is ready… she usually hits right-handers well…she swings…she rocks it! That’s going back…back…! Woah, Nelly! Some lucky girl watching will get that blast as a souvenir!!
The alt text mentioned Dynamite, but it was never said which it is in the comic, I’m betting on TNT… especially with that Pug around. Hopefully Presti is right and it is TNT, I mean you can hit TNT with a hammer and it wont explode, it won’t even explode if lit on fire, just melts, its that little charge at the end of the fuse that will detonate it. Also, I doubt it is dynamite simply because it didn’t blow up when she wacked the arm off.
That being said, I was just being pedantic. Using the word “dynamite” in the meaning of “stick which goes boom”, regardless of actual chemical composition, isn’t a far-fetched shorthand.
On the other hand, most of what I know on explosives is from D20 Modern, Spycraft and other “current era” RPGs, including the Jagged Alliance video games. Given the expected readership this webcomic is addressed to, I’m afraid I’m not the only RPG rule lawyer the author is going to attract. 🙂
The thing about explosives, they don’t only do fire damage ~ there’s also the shockwave to worry about … as it comes to fantasy meeting reality, not sure if Force or Thunder resistance would help ~ maybe both …
there is a specific category of damage contening fall damage, constriction or wind borst, for example, for choc/pressure on the whole body.
Some enchantment on armor or feat can divide it and the undead are immune to it.
Yes, if I were DM, I’d give it Sonic (thunder in 5e) damage, since the energy released by explosions is a shock wave. I’d also comsider accompanying fire damage (explosions are hot), and bludgeoning if any fragments were included. Definitely not force, which though so named represents magical energy. Nothing wrong with mutiple damage types sometimes…
Oh, the blast shouldn’t affect the magnet at all… it’s essentially a huge slab of solid iron, a couple of feet thick. Quite a *heavy* slab of solid iron, in fact… not something you want landing on top of you after the dynamite severs the cable.
Of course, the blast *might* just damage the cable enough to cut the power to the electromagnet, without actually severing it. But I doubt Stabs is that lucky…
Shouldn’t be an issue. As mentioned above, a big ol’ electromagnet like that is mostly a big slab of iron and she has total cover. Problem is she’s still high up in the air (falling damage) and underneath a big heavy slab of iron (falling rock damage) that is about to be cut loose.
Still, those are tumble/acrobatics checks and reflex saves.

Well. That’s thinkin’.
She diced it. She made julian fries.

Time to make that tumble check Stabs.
“This is not an ideal time to make assumptions on the damage breakdown of trinitrotoluene”
Especially since Nobel’s dynamite is made of nitroglycerine…
Unless you are talking about “military dynamite”, but even so, TNT is only a minor constituent.
Well, I think Presti has only the freebie layman rank in Knowledge Skill: Modern Explosives

Presti does talk about “lit dynamite” (panel 1).

Well, that’s one way to bring the party together again….
If it ain’t one thing, it’s d20…
Good news, Stabs! You’re going to be FREE!
And you have a teammate who can heal!

Sonic damage?
more like Force damage

it is robably what should count for explosives.

If she got the hole in one, I think Stabs might have had some complaints…
That said, maybe that magnet will absorb the brunt of the blast? It looks pretty thick…

Let’s hope the Rhino Launcher is sturdy enough to prevent crushing damage.
electric cables are still attached, she is going to go for a swing.
Stab’s expression in the final panel is just PERFECT!
Oh man Roxy looks awesome in that first panel!
You know, I would think water would be the best weapon against a cotton-candy beast. If someone could work one off of that cannon…
I’m fairly sure dynamite has ‘save for half damage’ to it. How is a rogue’s Evasion skill going to work when stuck to a magnet? Let’s find out~

Anyone else notice that Stabs doesn’t seem to be wearing any knives below the belt. I could have sworn she had leg sheaths in an earlier script.
