Never a dull day!
It’s a trap and maddie wouldn’t approve of not walking into it?
…
Stabs must be pretty smart.
As you can see, Presti’s argument of loyalty gets more and more compelling as time goes on
And once again, the paladin is laid low by what I can only imagine is a surprisingly low Will save.
Wasn’t Maddie’s face a bandaged up? Looks like an imposter to me…
Not when we last saw her.

The biggest difference I can see is no pitchfork.
Actually, no, she did have one, just on the other side of her face then what you linked. Though I suppose that could be the case here, but as pointed out below her hair and armor are from her first appearance.

Also missing the bandage around her neck.
So I’m guessing the old Doppleganger trick. Now, ask ‘Maddie’ what she would do in a classic Paladin dilemma, ie the King Solomon http://tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pmwiki.php/Main/JudgmentOfSolomon and see what she says.
She’s also wearing different armor…no arm plates, and she didn’t have Pauldrons before.
So if that’s a fake Maddie that Presti just zapped, the bad guys must know who’s inside the complex and who’s outside, and have deduced the basic parameters of the operation. Or if it’s the real Madeline, then our heroes are more divided than we knew, and wasting spells and resources on infighting while the bad guys look on in bemusement. “They’re doin’ our jobs for us!”
Either way, our girls are in a hell of a mess. Quick, Presti! Exposition! And a backup plan!
It’s obviously a fake. Putting aside the fact that she’s not behaving like Maddie at all, she’s wearing the paladin’s old armor.
This gang has been doppelled? Also, Maddie is unarmed.
Not to mention its also her old hairstyle/color.
I think Presti might have just done the good thing, because seriously, there is No Way Maddie could have gotten into the base camp, found Cube, and found Presti and Stabs without setting off every kind of alarm known (besides raw dumb luck)
“Vance.”
Nice.
Obscure references to the the mid-late 20th century progenitors of modern fantasy tabletop gaming are always appreciated 🙂
Still the game of Find the Lady (or Laddies).
It’s the doppler effect! Can’t you hear it echo?
Maddies an idiot. If she had found cube et all she wouldn’t have gone back for help she’d have charged in like a lunatic to save them without a second thought 🙂 So yeah it’s a doppleganger
Two years later and we got a retroactive Star Wars quote.
What a time to live in.
