Note for any non-D&D-players: the monster in the last panel, the remorhaz, deals with arctic weather by essentially having an internal furnace, Balrog-style. Notice the steaming breath… Also, this is a very well-drawn one! Those jewel-like compound eyes are a particularly nice effect.
Wow, that is a VERY impressive Remorhaz drawing. Sad to say, Pathfinder, the current edition of D&D, did not do them as much justice as you did. They tried too hard in this one instance to “try something new”… Your take on it classic, and yet far more bad-ass. (I always remember early editions pix making them look silly, and not at all intimidating.) Otherwise, I’ve almost universally loved their updates on the classics. Hmmmm… maaaaybe our campaigns will use your page as a reference for Remorhaz encounters. 😉
Well, technically, ‘Pathfinder’ and ‘the current edition of D&D’ are two different things. That said, the PF picture under ‘Remorhaz’ really wasn’t as impressive. There’s something about that soulless mask-like face…
In the 4E Monster Manual, the remorhaz was one of the pieces of artwork they kept from the previous edition. It’s pretty scary… gives a very clear impression of being both big, and fast. Looks a bit like this comic, actually – but more dynamic, and less looming.
Y’know, what are the odds that this is a new party member? 🙂
Oh? Thinking maybe it is a she and she’s mistaken mimic as her missing egg? (and when he does turn around and sees it/her, something might well hatch.)
Now, now: the important thing to remember about the Edition Wars is that deep in our hearts, way down deep, we’re all just nerds arguing over imaginary rules for playing ‘Let’s Pretend’. *sigh* Wow, I depressed myself.

Oh dear… That cant be good.
I think we might go so far as to say it was bad.
I remorhaz cheezburger?
Groooooan!
Ba-dum-tish.
Hssss.
Grrrrrr..ibit
I think I hate you.
Cool, and now the ‘GM’ will be able to throw all those ‘winter’ monsters they seldom get to use…lol Yeti’s anyone 🙂
I’m having traumatic flashbacks to SkiFree already.
Go Cube!

Ah, yes… I remember fighting one of those, in a 3.5e campaign. It went… poorly.
So its a fire based beast in a frozen wasteland? Clever.
Mimic may not feel guilty about that remark now, but he’ll soon realize just how remorhaz-ful he really is.

… now that’s a thought… parties are normally 5 or 6 people… if you count the ‘guest of the level’ then they need one or two more.

Sashimi roll + modifier?
Judging by its Stealth roll, I’d say a remorhaz rogue!
Technicalities
“Current edition of D&D”? Really? If you want to pull that, I get to pull “D&D stopped being D&D as soon as WotC got involved”.

And what’s wrong with that?
That is a genuinely terrifying remorhaz.
Why does everyone say the remorhaz is scary? Look at those big, soulful eyes! Clearly it just wants a hug.
“look at my eyes… they’re big, in japan that means I’m cute!” – MST3K ‘They’
I love this comic! =D And the remorhaz is so pretty~
