Special thanks to Jason P. for helping with the Munchkin references.
Update! Thanks to my wonderful fans and the most excellent people at Steve Jackson games, this strip took First Place in the 2011 Munchkin Webcomic Contest, and took Second Place in the Popular Vote!
Thanks for supporting Rusty & Co. everyone!
Awesomesauce. Not only did this come early rather than late (unheard of for a webcomic), but it combines my two favorite parodies of D&D. I only wish I had more expansions so I could identify all the monsters and items.
If you ever have the opportunity to contribute a card to Munchkin, it has to be the Belt of Genre changing. Using it involves replacing the remaining dungeon and treasure cards with an expansion your choice.
And the monster cards. Maybe someone can put the belt of Genre changing into The Cleaves.
Special Discoveries..
Most RPG card games have several types of cards. 1-place, as in room, dungeon, or terrain. 2-items such as treasure, tech, or gear. 3-creatures, aliens, monsters, or villian NPCs. 4-Discoveries, story elements, or complications. 5-Subterranean Stuff, such as furniture, small installations, rubble, trash, plants or fungi, General miscelania.
Presti with beard!
That’s the Fake Beard, actual equipment from the game. It allows players who aren’t dwarves to use dwarf-only items.
There’s even a ‘Gazebo’ Monster! This was a great change of Format. Cool
Cube has acquired arms?
Via the Coat of Arms card.
Ah, that makes sense. Or at least, what passes for sense in Munchkin…
Redneck trees and Ur-Gerbils. Awesome!
Now that’s how to dungeon crawl.
In case you didn’t notice, this is available as desktop wallpaper!
is Mimic riding a ur-gerbil from Nabonic?
That’s funny! I know it’s said but: “It’s a Gazebo!”
MANY thanks for this. It’s marvelous!
Thanks for the inspiration!
Bravo! The ‘Dreaded Gazebo’ from Knights of the Dinner Table. Now all that is left is to go back and ‘Waste him (the gnome) with my Crossbow!’ Best D&D style Web Comic on the net. {And Early Too}!!
Per your copyright, a nitpick – he Redneck Tree, while it appeared on a card in Munchkin, doesn’t belong to Steve Jackson Games. It’s copyrighted by me.
But awesome strip.
My mistake, sorry. Additional copyright info has been added.
What’s with the repeated images of blenders, books, drink-cans, etc. on the stonework? Looks like some sort of meta-puzzle.
Great strip BTW! The ‘Bad Ass’ is my favourite of the lot.
Am I the only one who got a kinda Family Circus kinda feel from this? Billy used to leave very similar dashed lines when he wandered about town.
Nope, I thought Family Circus as well. Although, unlike Family Circus, this stip is clever and funny.
Inspired by Family Circus would be the wrong word. More like blatantly and happily ripped off. Awesome strip.
Sweet action. You were able to sneak in some references that ended up being cut from my submission. Consider me jealous. Ha- that said, I’m amused at how many of the same references we picked. Especially cunning trick getting both the floating nose and the shadow nose in there- sneaky sneaky. Kudos.
Congrats on the Munchkin contest win!
Was that a Gazebo I spied?
Oh god the redneck tree! I know what that’s actually from. Run you magnificent bastards run!
It’s called “The Munchkin Dungeon” ’cause it’s short.
That redneck tree on the top right is probably the most dangerous creature in the panel …
Well I can’t find the Shadow Nose, but I did spot that Cube is wielding the Unnatural Axe, and apparently nobody bothered to mention it for twelve years.
