If they were still trapped in the artifact, sure it’d suck to be trapped, but at least they wouldn’t be at risk of the afterlife disintegrating around them.
I’m wondering if, since everything so far seems to be according to the bad guys plan, https://rustyandco.com/comic/level-8-191/
Anti-Madeline actually threw a wrench into it.
It’s possible? Anti-Madeline does advise Malevolus back in level 8 that if he helps the Viscount, that the Viscount will just betray him next. So it’s possible that Anti-Madeline is throwing wrenches into their plans. Alternatively, it’s possible that Anti-Madeline is working for the Viscount and the other fiends.
Evil vs evil backstabbery is a fun prospect, though!
Besides what BadRoad said, he’s also just recently been reminded that he does Not necessarily know the exact details anymore. He set out to change things, and his changes have had unexpected consequences, starting with Madeline and Derek’s “conflict of interest.” (See Level 12, #11) He needs to make sure there aren’t other changes he’s unaware of yet.
Hyssop is a shrub in the mint family with a long history of medicinal and religious usage. “Purge me with hyssop, and I shall be clean.” Pun? Possible but not ensured. After all, you would expect the cleric of circumstance to have a surprise in her name first.

Hurrah! They revived Whitey!
After the way he died I was really hoping for that.
As long as his and Grawlf’s spirits are still there to *be* revived. If so, maybe they can give Maddie news of her new buddies.
Unfortunately, 66.666% success is still a failure…
Is it that high with the artifact depowered?
(Cold, Zar, cold, not to consider the souls trapped.)
Hey! Maybe those souls can help out Oliver and Gielgud at some crucial point!
If they were still trapped in the artifact, sure it’d suck to be trapped, but at least they wouldn’t be at risk of the afterlife disintegrating around them.
…I think Mimic is struggling to not disguise himself as a common, unassuming throw rug.
For Stabs, the real shame is that someone an eighth of her size managed to steal from *her*.

Anti-Madeline actually threw a wrench into it.
I’m ready to bet that part will be essential wrench in bad guys plan.

I know there’s a reason for it, but Zar letting other people finish their sentences is weird.
He’s not the only one who needs to hear what everyone is about to say.

Looks like we’re about to get another look at Angry Zar.
Could be. Could be another “excellent”.
Trouble with these behind-the-scenes long-game-playing folks, you never know when their plan expects you to mess up! :p
If he says “That’s perfect, moving on…” and leaves Stabs and Mimic staring in confusion I will not be surprised.
OTOH, we went from “Excellent” to “Acceptable” to — well, the trend is not good
That response from Maddie is just so…innocently wholesome. Everytime we think she can’t get any more wholesome, she gains a level in wholesomeness.
Don’t blame me, I voted for Grinner!
“Miss Happ”
How long did it take me to get that….
Hap is an archaic word that means “happening” or “luck.” To get “mishap” out of it is — very logical. (Also “happiness” and “perhaps.”)
Does Derek have something similar going on with his name?
I feel like Hyssop *has* to be a pun setup, but I can’t find it.

On reflection:
What happened to the White Knight and Dr. Grawlf in the afterlife?
We’ll probably find out, the level is called what it’s called for a reason.
