Hmm, we know that this timeline is different from the one Zar knows, so I wonder if he’s expecting Robbespiere and Derek to have gone on a mission. Certainly he expects the belt to be in bigger hands than it is right now. And perhaps he expects the speak and spell to still have power?
Interesting — I hadn’t considered what Zar expected from those two guys. He told “Mr. Boxford” and his two companions to each pick two allies, but I don’t suppose he ever heard who those allies were. Wouldn’t that be an awkward conversation? (especially with all those other points!)
“Of course, Mr. Boxford chose the mightiest enforcers as his bodyguards.”
“…er, how ’bout ‘tiniest enforcers?’ Is tha’ close enough?”
“…and my apprentice Derek defended the castle with his power over its very stones.”
[wobble, wobble] “Cube says, ‘Sometimes, it’s better to be lucky than good.'”
“But at least the castle is safe and has a new guardian–”
“She branched out from ‘bagels’ to ‘muffins’ yesterday!”
“…and you have the colony’s artifact–”
“It feels a little light. Is that normal?”
“…and the belt.”
“…uh, let’s say that one’s being kept on the down-low.”
Seem to recall Yuan-Tiffany and Anti-Madeline being instrumental in their jobs to the point where a certain Southern-accented Snake could be considered the hero of Rusty’s story. And considering Madeline was in their group, I don’t say that lightly. Also, AM still has the belt.
Point is, are they going to need everyone to pull this off?
I’m more concerned that Robespierre has a retirement fund at all; I’d assume that for Barbarians, if they don’t die young, in time they become kings by their own hand. Those stories shall also be told.
I’m most afraid who is prepared for both options because they don’t strongly suspect either. This is especially the case if those who know them well are sure it will be the latter and those who know them only moderately well assume the former.
Incidentally, that’s pretty much what Robespierre seems to be.

More efficient. All right. . . .
One notes that Roxy is ready to join in at once.
Roxy doesn’t want to be around should the Princess discover any other of Roxy’s actions as body double.
Mimic is the one with blind faith.
Well he has kept his eye closed for so long it’s likely atrophied from disuse….
There’s time for sober analysis and there’s time for rousing speeches. Mimic’s leadership skills let him switch back and forth as needed.
You could say shifts to the role the social situation needs…

Oh, right. These missions.
Now I see why Mimic suddenly acquired in the last case a case of cold feet. Cold tentacles. Appendages. Hinges. Whatever.
Sometimes it’s better to be lucky than knowledgeable.
Or perhaps Cube reasoned he wanted someone who would fight to do damage, in case he needed that.

Wait a minute…did Petey just use a pronoun?
Oops. I’ve fixed it, thanks.

Who are you more afraid of? The guy expecting to die early, or the guy expecting to live ’til old age?

Be more afraid of the guy who has already retired from the battles and just wants to drink the rest of his life away quietly 😉
Rule of Funny rules.
“Boxford?” That’s Mimic’s surname? …He has a surname?
“Legal name”
I’m not sure if it’s a first name, a last name, or an only name.

Name. Mimic is his nickname for obvious reasons.
Yeah, this may be the only mimic they know but there are others about. I don’t know anybody in real life named Human.
If you were named Boxford, you might want to be called Mimic, too
Probably still wouldn’t want to be called Human though.
What about Manny and Guy?
I’m taking your comment as a joke (particularly when coming from someone called Fellow) but just in case…
Manny is a nickname for Manuel, a name in Spanish, whose word for “man” is “hombre.”
The word “guy” derives from the name and not vice versa; it originally referred to an effigy of Guy Fawkes.
(Check 8-17 of the comic)
Welp, time for me to reread the baseball episode. It’s weird to think that was eight years ago.
‘Guy’ is from ‘Gaius’, the most common personal name for men in the Roman Republic/Empire.
Executing a series of plans without fail? Couldn’t be my D&D.
Re-cap !! and probably in less time than it’d take me to go back and reread it all…again 🙂
