I once tried to pin down Derek’s cleric level based on him being able to summon Bigguns, assuming, of course, that he isn’t using some item power or other plot device, and that our favourite angel is playing somewhat by the book, even as a written-in character. Basically, he could either be casting (Greater) Planar Ally (clr 8) or Gate (clr 9).
To determine which, we need to estimate Bigguns’s hit dice. In her usual form, she’s at least large, making her a 19-36 HD Deva or a Planetar (15-42 HD, grows to huge at 22 HD, which will be relevant further down). I seem to remember that canonically, she’s a Deva, in which case, we can take a shortcut to determine the spell used: with her 19+ HD, Greater Planar Ally with its 18 HD limit would be unable to summon her, only Gate (clr 9) could do so.
During her fight with Oozanka she’s at least gargantuan in size. This would suggest that she’s actually a Planetar with 22+ HD (base size: huge), which Righteous Might would buff to gargantuan. Which would lead to the same conclusion though: 22>18, only Gate could summon her.
So assuming there are no summoning shenanigans, Derek can cast Gate.
Which, in turn, suggests that he is able to cast True Resurrection.
For those who consider such matters, Angelissa is a Tuckerization of a D&D character. The player mentioned what level Angelissa reached while discussing her name.
See my caveats: DM fiat can render any such considerations moot. Making Bigguns summonable via Greater Planar Ally would require a lot of handwaving though — too much for Occam’s Razor imo. It’s more reasonable to assume that Derek is able to cast Gate.
24, not counting the +8 racial level adjustment. That was under 3.5e rules though. I’m not sure how she would work under 5e. And yes, she’s an astral deva.
Not sure why Mike decided to make her a giant though. ^^
Olivier’s lucky that spirits aren’t able to fly in that dimension, or things would have been *real* awkward. Of course, then they probably wouldn’t be hitching a ride on a giant purple eldritch lobster monster, either.

Now all you clever people will undoubtedly figure it out. Me – not so clever…
“the prodigal daughter will unlock the next portal”
They expect her to try to help the people in the void. They *want* her to try to go back…
The Batman Gambit isn’t just for heroes.
All I really want is for those guys to come back.
In theory, they could be returned. Maddy knows their names, and it’s possible to return someone without the body with a True Ressurrection spell.
Except they would need a 17th level cleric to cast that. And I don’t think Derek or Dorilys are that high level.

Aren’t planetars even more green than Dorilys? Pretty sure she’s a Deva, size isn’t everything.

’cause it was useful for the plot
The expressions in the crowd are a nice touch.
I am so glad Derek is there to give Maddie a hug, because she NEEDS it.
And now we have names for both of them.
Note that Gielgund, like Olivier, is an actor’s name.
Geilgud, like Spellgud, but “got gud” with geils.
G-I-E-L-G-U-D
Nominal importance…

They wouldn’t have need to walk in the first place.
