I respected him for doing it. She’d already done her best to save them, so he wasn’t going to let her give up her chance at life just to see if her gamble paid off.
We sort of knew, or at least it was a fair guess. At the ending of the volcano circus chapter (the DING page), Derek is at the hospital where Maddie is, and when Mimic brings flowers to check on her, he first asks Derek how she’s doing (or so I assume — it’s all wordless, and all the more tender for it).
Since I guess Derek was the one looking after her, it makes sense to me that he was the one who brought her back too.
Horn Dude. Not the hero she wanted, but probably the hero she needed.
Now Madeline just has to get past her survivor guilt, not bottle it up, use it to fuel a renewal of the Mission To Do Good (but not get all “Born Again” fanatical about it).

Like teaching a baby bird to fly, only involving less babies. And less birds. And less flight.
…Who am I kidding, it’s nothing like that at all.
And less teaching. And you’re totally right!
Congratulations! You are being resurrected. Please do not resist.
Wow. Didn´t know barbarians had a surprise attack!
More like a grapple and throw
If you knew, then it wouldn’t be a surprise
I really like the change in Horned Helmet’s expression before he shoves Maddi off. A mixture of sadness, concern, and hope.
It’s subtle, but it’s there.
I guess I can start calling ‘Horned Helmet’ Olivier, since that what ‘wizard guy’ calls him back in 12-14.
Ahh the expression that says “Thank you for saving us. Now GTFR!”
GTFA – Get TF Alive
GTFR – Get TF Rezzed
Yeah, the art monkey has real damn talent.
Dick move, but sometimes that’s necessary in order to goad someone into doing the truly right thing
I respected him for doing it. She’d already done her best to save them, so he wasn’t going to let her give up her chance at life just to see if her gamble paid off.
He slugged her by way of introduction, because she was just standing there, which would have been the end of her. So we know he’s willing.
Then, she’s grabbed people by the ears by way of persuasion.
Good thing it wasn’t a Speak With Dead spell.
Ah yes: Forceful Resurrection
Somatic Component: Shove the unwilling soul into soul-ending danger during resurrection.
I thought that was normal for resurrections. They fail when you’re the last one…or have been a dick.
I don’t know who those spirits are…or sadly maybe ‘were’ but I suspect some divine wisdom, and kindness behind the yeet
Now, she can’t see them to safety, so she might as well grab the raise dead.
Did we already know it was Derek who did the rez? It’s been a while.
We sort of knew, or at least it was a fair guess. Since I guess Derek was the one looking after her, it makes sense to me that he was the one who brought her back too.
At that time, I thought Mimic was asking a member of the staff for directions.
Yeah, I don’t think any of us realized that was Derek until the next episode.
Some people need a shove out the door.
Yeah, there are people here who need help. Sometimes, those people are you. Please accept it.

The best and worst timing.
That’s nice of you and all, but don’t be an idiot here
