Long, long ago, at a small con in New Mexico, we had to infiltrate a walking castle, remain undetected and get out with the item we were sent to get (don’t remember what it was). That was a fun scenario.
However alive it may be, its range is limited by the moat. Since stone does not float on water, it really doesn’t matter whether the moat is full of air or water. If the moat gets filled with rock, or soil, or quicksilver, the castle can cross.
Well… I kind of wonder. The towers are acting as arms…. Hypothesizing some stairs and basements (and we’ve seen some; we just don’t know their full range) — I could see them acting as legs and feet. Possibly long enough to let it step right over the area formerly known as ‘moat.’
I almost wonder if draining the moat wasn’t partially to prevent the tunnels from being flooded out when the castle stood up. Seems like too simple and practical of a reason, tho, given all the work that was required.
Nah, you´ll probably need something bigger, like a catapult- or a ballista, maybe? Oh, if there only was a ballista nearby! With poisoned arrows per chance…
By the way, CG seems to be on his (?) toes (??)…
Darkness beyond twilight
Crimson beyond blood that flows
Buried in the flow of time
In thy great name, I pledge myself to darkness
Let all the fools who stand in our way be destroyed
by the power you and I possess…
Got to wonder: how big a miniature would you need to represent a living castle, what would its stats be, and can you sneak attack it with a balista?????
NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! DOG TOWN, NOT YOU! I really liked that derro!
Avenge him, CG! The castle shall not be left unpunished nor un-PUN-ished!
It’s important to note that the SRD doesn’t include depictions or descriptions of mind flayers beyond the vague description of abberation. This means that bipedal squid guy mind flayers are still going to be protected. Think of it like how winnie the pooh is public domain, but if your winnie wears a red shirt disney can sue you to death.
The first target of the castle was an invader. Is someone controlling the castle? Does Viscount control it since he created it? Or does it have its own mind and can act how it wants? WIll it be loyal to the Princess?
But it did receive a command. A command for better accommodations and some shade. As the Danish gravedigger says, the he builds stronger than the mason, the shipwright, or the carpenter for the houses he builds last til doomsday.
The derro in question has no complaints about how his command has been carried out at any rate.

How dreadful.

If you’re right, then castle can just fill moat by smashing the far edges, collapsing the moat.
The moat was drained when the bike was dumped into it. (Chapter 11 page 31).
The question is WHY?
Because it somehow has to start following logical rules of reality now?
It does if it’s funnier that way.
Indeed, I don’t think axes and fire spells will help.
Nah, you´ll probably need something bigger, like a catapult- or a ballista, maybe? Oh, if there only was a ballista nearby! With poisoned arrows per chance…

Yes, this needs some bigger spell.

I mean, if you can burn a water elemental…

The Princess disguise is slipping. Seeing more and more of those eyes.
More of the ears too.
This is why adventurers panic at the sight of a gazebo.
Rest in splatters dogtown.
Oh god I just noticed the blue splotch
Rest in pieces indeed
Rest in pancake.
Kind of surprising: Softtails calm, even envious reaction to Dogtowns reduction to two dimensions. I’d like to hear this backstory…
They’re insane circus people. It seems pretty normal for them to be unconcerned with each other’s safety.
Edgar Roni Figaro, eat your heart out.
Oh god I just noticed the blue splotch
rest in pieces
First gazebos.
Then gongs.
Now castles.
And I thought my Tabaxi Rogue had it bad with the 5 (yes FIVE!) separate times he failed to spot Mimics before being attacked in an old 5E campaign!
I’m guessing the mimics had disguised themselves as common, unassuming pieces of furniture? I hear that’s a pretty effective strategy.
It’s the final phase of the fight against Baroness von Bon Bon!
This looks like a job for Giga Bowser. Wouldn’t be the first castle he’s defeated in a fist fight.
Oh no!! Even cube is frightened!! Or maybe he’s just a bit squared?
How DARE you?! GC is not retreating but going for a running start!
Got to wonder: how big a miniature would you need to represent a living castle, what would its stats be, and can you sneak attack it with a balista?????
Well, it’s oficial.
Now, they have a castle that can defend itself
“When in doubt, castle.” – Kurt Vonnegut
Does that count as a tower getting dropped on someone?
I’m not sure.
Dorilys is surely noticing that she didn’t get to do it, just when it would have been a nice relief.
I’m wondering if Dorilys is now regretting making those suggestions? In light of animatedly angry the castle has now suddenly become…
There’s the moving castle. Where’s Howl?
It’s no Gazebo, but it might be a Werehouse of unusual size.

Hey Mike, this is likely to be of major interest:
“On page 254 of the 5.1 SRD that is now Creative Commons, there is this mention of:
aboleths
beholders
mind flayers
slaadi
So, these names are not “Product Identity” anymore. They are CC-BY, in the wild, and irrevocable.”

Mike already made a twitter post about it.

Oh whoops I didn’t see the date on your message, sorry.
Oooh, this concept was in a Fafhrd & the Gray Mouser story. Classic!
Wait, now the castle has TWO faces! It has an angry face on the top floor (balcony jaw), and a scared face along the front wall (drawbridge jaw).
Ah the castle golem. Fought one in an old 3.5 epic game once.
You know, maybe it’s amenable to talking. Just establish a foundation, make some concrete arguments, and don’t scrimp on the supporting evidence.
Castlepainia!
The first target of the castle was an invader. Is someone controlling the castle? Does Viscount control it since he created it? Or does it have its own mind and can act how it wants? WIll it be loyal to the Princess?
Maybe it just attacked the talker.
Maybe it has no mind
The golems we’ve seen so far seem to follow commands, but maybe it defaults to attacking like that if it doesn’t receive any.
But it did receive a command. A command for better accommodations and some shade. As the Danish gravedigger says, the he builds stronger than the mason, the shipwright, or the carpenter for the houses he builds last til doomsday.

When the dungeon *is* the boss.
