Probably not HER shortsighteness. I don’t think defenses on the building were in budget. Also, it MIGHT be something which require more than one wizard.
Given the princess’ capacity to take care of herself I feel like the castle should have been at least slightly prepared for “things that are attacking the castle in general” just on the basis of things that pose a threat to Her Highness.
But has to have SOME limitations if so, since she walked into Cube.
OTOH, she’s probably notice him with Blind-sight, too, so maybe she was just preoccupied with trying to pull herself together with disaster looming AGAIN,
What kind of castle isn’t designed with defense against enemy attacks in mind?
Also, ten degrees warmer every day for a week? That means 70 degrees warmer, or at least 38.9 proper degrees if you’re using Fahrenheit. Unless the basement was freezing before, it should be hot enough by now that humans can’t enter it without magical protection from fire.
Being usually built underground basements of castles are cold places, but if we start from 10C that rise would make just normal temperature for sauna.
Again if it’s using taken figuratively from the butt of person scale, that would be “freezing to death” temperature for sauna.
Getting cold shivers just from thinking that…
The best sauna I’ve been in was 110C, because it was forgotten to warm up for extra quarter hour before going in.
Sometimes being late pays off…

Uneasy lies the head that wears the pointed hat…
Especially when that head is in government service.
Not having defenses on the whole building was just shortsighted penny-pinching, though.
Uneasy sits the butt that bears the boss!

I gotta be real here

“Yes, your Highness, you could use that gold on mortar for the south wall, but might it be better used for the next supply of Divination potions?”
Did Prestige take the Blind-Fight feat?
She’s getting around very well in spite of the eye-mask.
Wizard. She probably has a low level divination spell already cast.
The eye mask may be magical.
But has to have SOME limitations if so, since she walked into Cube.

Maybe she got freaky and got a psionically-empowered mask that lets her see sound.

Correction: That means 70 degrees warmer, or 126 proper degrees if you’re using Centigrade or Kelvin. 🙂
“All week” could mean “since Monday morning”. A rise of 30-40°C is still a lot, though.
(15-20°C is… maybe less so.)
A D&D one. They are, after all, used to fighting different sorts of wars.

It’s amazing how Cube can looked miffed without a face.
He managed that with Grinner, too.
What are you talking about? He’s got six faces!
Finally a Gauntlet reference!!
Cube took his helmet off before talking to the ladies because he’s as smooth as he is smooth.
Presti just throwing down the Gauntlet
Hmm, what if presty’s sleeping mask is hiding that she’s someone else?
In a dark corridor he is also nearly invisable.
Cube’s thinking, “I got my mind on my membrane and my membrane on my mind.”
Was that a Five Iron Frenzy reference?
