And once again, we admire the Viscount’s planning skills, to have created so many Malevolus’s and given them such specific instructions as “if you feel that you couldn’t kill the princess, throw her at this exact spot. An assassin will finish the job.”
Yeah, this looks like a backstab. Malevolus uses the powder on the mushrooms growing in the castle, thinking he’s killing them. Next thing you know there’s mushroom golems running around everywhere and he gets blamed for the fungal infestation. I’m assuming the Viscount is applying the real fungicide right now to make the ruse more convincing.
You know, for the longest time I thought Viscount had a little evil mustache, but with this close up of his face I see he’s clean shaven… and it makes me trust him even less than before. Now his face just looks more punchable.
Is it the color of the light in the hallway, or is the Viscount’s hair more fun-guy colored? Malevolus’ hair is still brown, but the Viscount’s is a lot more purple than I remember, and more purple than his pic on the cast page.

Am I missing something? I don’t remember any indication that there are multiple Malevoluses. Malevoli?
Malevoli is like my fifth favorite pasta type.
Woops! Mistyped Calamitus. Although having several Malevoli would do a lot to increase their overall courage.
This just suggested to me, “Malevolus madly runs away in all directions” (paraphrasing Leacock).
He doesn’t even have to track down all the fun guys himself. He delegates.
Is it just me, or does the Viscount look significantly younger than he did about 20 strips ago?
It could be the facial expressions. He looks a lot more smug here.
If the fungicide is in the blue bag now, then the golem dust…
Is the Viscount misrepresenting what is in the bag?
No, he’s spraying the castle with golem dust. I hope the bullywugs still have that poison tipped ballista.
I hope Dorilys can still drop a tower. Or two.

The fungicide was green, though. The viscount has something different in his perfume bottle.
Malevolus’ reaction in panel 1 is surprisingly similar to Grawlf’s when he ran into the Viscount earlier.
‘Twould seem that no one on the Viscount’s “side” actually wants to run into the Viscount…
They remain on his side because they don’t want to get on his BAD side even more.
Surprisingly?

“Hey! You gotta’ expect a little burning and itching when you wear armor all the time….”
So, everyone in the castle has been sweating throughout this arc, what with that unnatural heat.
Except Grawlf and Cube, who lack sweat glands.
And the subterranean invaders, who seem used to the heat.
And the viscount …
Of course, two of the derro haven’t been sweating because Presti helped them to stay cool.
The Viscount is too well bred to do something so mundane as ‘sweat’. He is above such petty concerns.
To be fair, the presumed source of the heat, the lava golems, has been dealt with. This sweat is more Malevolus’ typical nervous sweat.
Fungicide mixed with animating powder. And then the tower attacks.
I guess you could say the fungicide is the Viscount’s Christmas present to Malevolus. A pity he didn’t have time to wrap it, though.
Merry Christmas, everyone!
