Looks like we’ve underestimated her in the last comic. Come to think of it, she’s thinking in the first two panels and talking out loud in the third. That’s also pointing towards subterfuge, isn’t it? And she IS the wizard who stands on clouds and bluffs her way through a scent check!
It’s a slip of the old continuity monitor. I mean ‘slipper’. Or a dead give-away. Actually, I think she’s had both on previous to entering the cellar, as it’s hard to make the flip-flop noise with only one flip.
Madeline may have had her eyes closed but if the illusion can make her look like a panicked Presti it can make her look like a panicked Presti who has her eyes open

A minute?! I’ll be waiting all week!
Don’t get me wrong, I love a good evoker. There’s nothing like solving problems by just nuking them into oblivion.
But it’s stuff like this that makes me appreciate just how powerful a decent illusionist can be…
I like any character that makes use of the words of Sun Tzu.
“Appear weak when you are strong, and strong when you are weak.”
“The supreme art of war is to subdue the enemy without fighting.”
“If your opponent is of choleric temper, seek to irritate him. Pretend to be weak, that he might grow arrogant.”
That’s illusionists in a nutshell, right there.
I’ve always thought that Presti was kind of hot, but those golems are hotter.
I would definitely buy a “Girls of Rusty & Co.” swimsuit calendar.
I am so ashamed.

She’s both dramatic AND sensible!
I love the art. So good!
This is Rib Cage, isn’t it? Soon to be R.I.P. Cage?
Don’t you just lava good illusion?
This isn’t even Presti’s magma opus.
Did she just push on a lava golem’s arm to get away in the second-to-last panel? Yeah, that’s an illusion alright.
It’s unclear whether she’s actually touching there, or just has her hand open in midair in a downward position while jumping up.
However, what she’s doing is betraying *something*.
Hmm.. I had my doubts about an illusion.. then I noticed… She has both slippers on now…

not at all.
Some politicians manage the flip flop sound wearing fine Italian footwear.
Makes sense, she could have picked it back up, and it could totally be a red-herring… But I tend to see Chekhov’s gun tucked into her slipper.
Maybe it was the herring that was flipping and flopping.
To be honest, my first thought was to wonder if the was Madeline, covered by an illusion.
Madeline would have had her eyes closed, dead giveaway.
Damn I miss her. And I miss Maladine too…
Wadeline, you mean? 😉
Madeline may have had her eyes closed but if the illusion can make her look like a panicked Presti it can make her look like a panicked Presti who has her eyes open
Remember the stories are happening all at the same time. This is why they had to split up the party.
Besides, of course, the fact that the baseball episode showed the length issue with a cast of dozens.
I wouldn’t mind seeing more of these “split party” stories.
But it appears that each of them is going to gain 3 levels because they split the party. Like, why is this Cube’s level 11?
Presti needs to get out of dodge!
