Great styles. I like them.
(and very apropos – if the use in-story of a genre-shifting artefact is not the perfect time to invite guest artists to do some actual genre-shifting, I don’t know what it is)
The plaid fins really make the first one. Awesome stuff, all.
Maybe, just maybe, controlling the genre will NOT grant you automatic victory?
so what are those genres?
I get the Western, but the first two?
Second one looks like anime to me. I kinda recognize the aesthetic of #1, but don’t know what it’s called.
I think the first genre is Cthulu or Lovecraftian-punk.
Second one is “Attack on Titan” style. More specifically, Levi against the beast titan aesthetics.
I’d say “Tower of God”, by SIU. The kinetic lines and energy attacks are very similar, and giant morphing monsters is the norm in the recent arc.
Wow fantastic art is the usual here but you’ve outdone yourself!
It was guest artists on this one
I guessed cyperpunk dystopia. Not for any particular reason, but just because. I was wrong. Instead…
Film Noir
Cosmic Horror
Vampire Hunter
Spaghetti-Western
Maybe next week, James Bond? “The name’s Boxford, Mimic Boxford”. *hums* Dun dundundun da dah dun dindindindin…
I love all this stuff, though it takes a bit of effort just to tell what the hell’s going on. It appears our heroes outfox (outcroc?) whatshername and steal the Magic Dingus to use for their own purposes.
First panel: Stabs and Mimic run away with the belt. Tarta as a kraken prepares to get it back.
Second panel: Princess attacks Tarta, who wears the belt as an armband.
Third panel: Princess triumphantly holds the belt she took from Tarta.
Yes, but it appears that Princess slings … Mimic … on a bolt of lightning? In panel 2. Or is this the anime way of stylistically showing a fight without, you know, showing any of it? Swirly-winds-and-lightning-with-still-characters-frozen-in-threatening-gestures in the Mind’s Eye. Funny old thing, the Mind’s Eye, it often needs Visine and is hard to blink.
Interesting that the Belt was able to alter the terrain. Western towns are not usually known for the their waterfront property…
It could last time.
Ah right. They did end up in Tokyo somehow…
Still, I have to wonder how this works. Did the fishpeople get adapted into something that fits in a desert? Did the characters we see get teleported away from there the fishpeople are? What happens if you walk out a little distance in the direction that the sea used to be and then switch the genre back to one that does have a sea there?
The way things are arranged now, it looks like the belt keeps changing hands. In the first panel (Lovecraft), they got the belt away from Tartathulhu. In the second panel, Tartitan has the belt firmly around her wrist. Then in the third panel, the princess is getting away with it. If the top two panels were swapped, it would create a more contiguous sequence of events.
